Deadhead and groom roses continuously. Never leave dead or dying stems of the plant because
disease can spread to healthy growth.
Transplant Bearded Iris anytime in August. Cut leaves in a fan below where they are
dying back and replant them so that the top of the root is at the surface of the soil.
Use bone meal when you plant and remember they need full sun to bloom well.
Wait until winter or spring to prune any trees or shrubs. Pruning now could
trigger new growth which will not have a chance to harden before freezing
temperatures kill them.
Wait till cooler weather to plant shrubs, trees or perennials.
Once the weather cools a little, take advantage of end-of-season specials at
garden centers.
Continue to keep planting beds well weeded. Many weeds are going to seed
at this time of year and will spread many seeds to pester you next
season if allowed to mature.
