June 14th, 2007 - Well Mojito's at it again! This time he negotiated with 2 space traders from Neptune 3 named Don and Mike, and acquired the location of our exiled leader "The Silver Surfer"! We instantly launched an all out assault to rescue him from captivity. Now "verbarites" (the frothing followers of REVERB GALAXY) come join us in celebrating his return this Saturday at Chick's Surf Hall in Bladensburg, Maryland. We'll be joined by several other surf bands who wish to pay respect to this valiant space traveler. Nitro disengaging! ~Art
May 12th, 2007 - The Instronauts are kicking off a new season, and will playing a lot of familiar venues for our "verbarites" (the frothing followers of REVERB GALAXY) We're also heading to Cue Recording in Falls Church, VA to work on our upcoming CD to be released hopefully prior to the mad Labor Day rush! Beside re-recording the 4 songs off our original CD EP, we'll also be adding some new songs from our shows including "Revvin' the Woodie", and "Blue Sunset over Galveston". We'll keep you posted via here and at our myspace site. Nitro disengaging! ~Art
June 8th, 2006 - We've been playing out so much lately that we haven't had time to return emails, etc... as fast as we would like. Thanks for all the responses and emails! We'll get back to answering everyone this week. Hopefully you were at our friggin' kick-butt show last night at the BLACK CAT in DC with the Post-Punk band, the Opposite Sex . Great crowd, great music! Jeremy, our new drummer, drove us out of the local solar system (preferring the outer reaches of the galaxy) and we had yet another addition to the sultry Neptina's, the lovely Ms. Laura! BUT... just when we thought we had tore the roof off the place, the Opposite Sex picked up the house and took us to Kansas! Yow-abunga!!
Mojito has gotten us out of the nuclear age and put us into the cosmic radiation stage; see our alternative site at www.myspace.com/reverbgalaxy .
We hope to be in the studio soon so we can get working on our long awaited full length CD which will include a lot of new material including "Revvin' the Woodie", and "Blue Sunset over Galveston". To hear demo cuts click here: Rough Cuts . Hope to see everyone this summer, and don't be a stranger, email us at reverbgalaxy@comcast.net . Systems Alert! Nitro disengaging! ~Art
November 11th -
We sadly note the passing of the magnificent
Link Wray
on November 5, 2005 at his home in Copenhagen, Denmarkat age 76. His death was
announced several weeks later by his wife, who said that "his heart was
tired."Wray nearly invented the rock and roll instrumental in 1958 with the
unmitigated classic "Rumble." This and many of his
other instrumentals, such as "Jack the Ripper",
"Rawhide", and "I'm
Branded", are staples of the repetoires of countless surf bands,
including Los Straightjackets. Link relied less on flawless virtuosity
and more on menacing, snarling guitar tone coaxed out of cheapo ugly duckling
guitars. Legend has it that he created the distorted tone on
"Rumble" by poking holes in his amp's speaker cone with a pencil and
that DJs at the time refused to play it out fear that it would spark violence.
Link played for years in crappy biker clubs and redneck beer joints in D.C. and
Prince George's County, with his dark hair slicked back and sporting his
ubiquitous black leather jacket: real old-school rock 'n' roll. He moved from
Accokeek, Maryland in the '70s
to Copenhagen, but returned to the US frequently to tour. He played the
Birchmere in Alexandria, VA as recently this year.
It is only fitting that on November 5, as
Link Wray
lay quietly dying across the sea, Reverb Galaxy
(and probably a dozen more bands somewhere else) took to the stage to channel
his spirit and bash out "Rumble" yet again. We
salute this legend." ~Joe
November 8th - Well Saturday night (the 5th) it was Swamp-Rats vs. the Instronauts at the CCBC Barn Theatre, and brah' did we have some fun! We followed the SwampRunners, playing their rockin' Bayou music that really got the crowd into dancin' and drinkin'! Walter, Chris, Sharon, and the rest of the band were fun to watch and really got that river groove going. Both bands donated a portion of the show to the Katrina relief fund. We hope to hook up with them again soon!
Reverb Galaxy went on around 10:30ish, and for the first few songs, Mojito had to keep his spaceboots to the floor to keep Dano's kick drum (straining under the relentless Dano footwork) from sliding off the stage. With Neptuna in her 60's garb, and Sharon from the SwampRunners stepping in for the MIA Neptina, the band got to try out our new fog machine. (Click here to see photo Satellite Images) Mojito finally got his own pedal to help compete with Rumblesurfskin and Nowhere Man's collection of stompboxes. The night ended with Joe doing his first live solo work on Link Wray's Rumble (fitting isn't it?). Joe kicked ass!
As we packed up for the night, Dana, Dave and Chris serenaded everyone with an impromptu percussion jam session, that we should have gotten on tape - maybe next time. So thanks to everyone who showed up, and I'll tell you this, those Bayou people could really dance, even to my less conventional East European influenced surf tunes! See you on the waves - pray for Interstellar Surf! ~Art
October 7th - During a very successful outing in College Park, MD, the band was lucky enough to get to try out a "cherry" sweet Hallmark guitar and an equally sweet bass. To see more about Hallmark, click HALLMARK GUITARS . We hope to be using a few on our next CD scheduled to be out before summer 2006. Sitting in at the gig was Sam Atkins (Rumblesurfkin's little spacebot and future surf guitarist). Plenty of pics at Satellite Images of Sam and the band!!! Our October 22nd gig at the Aqua Lounge in NYC was cancelled. The club has gone to a DJ format, ugh! Currently we're still peeling eyeballs for a new drummer; Dano is focusing on his own band "the Opposite Sex" click through at the opposite sex . We all wish Dave the best, and hope to have a new drummer in place soon!!!

July 24th - The New York show at Otto's Shrunken Head went "surfastromic" and we really want to thank everyone who came out, especially Joe's friend "Corn" (who put us up for the night), and all the die hard surf fans! Special thanks to Dave Rosenberg, and Unsteady Freddie who really made us feel at home. The New York crowd was fantastic and all the bands were jamming that savage surf sound! Keep an eye out for a new band called Venice Muscle Beach Club, they have some great songs, and Evan (their lead guitarist) is no ho-dad! As always Strange Dave played his butt off, and put on a great show! Plus we got our first look at a very polished and fun band called Mr. Action and the Boss Guitars. The best part of the night was hearing the various renditions of "Out of Limits", "Miserlou" and "Walk Don't Run". Check out the pics we have so far - HERE BE THE PICTURES.
Finally, let's not forget the Baltimore show at Current - gallery and artist cooperative (click here for link). We got to play in an intimate setting, for another great crowd, with a giant picture window facing South Calvert Street. We shot video and had a lot of fun watching all the local Bohemians poke their heads in for a snoot of that twangin' surf sound echoing through the Inner Harbor.
June 4th - A great show at DC9, with the band and Go go's in full space attire including the "smoking ray guns"! Lots of dancing, drinking and making friends; click here to see photo images of shows. The Taildraggers and the Monsters from the Surf both put on rockin' shows!
June 1st - We'd like to thank Jerome of El Patapsco for setting us up with a 10pm July 23rd gig at Current Space in the Inner Harbor. We played with this band last December and they have a great selection of material and are all around great guys! Should be a fun show!
May 19th - Just added to our summer schedule is a surf-aholics night with the Strange Dave Rosenberg Band, the Chillers, and special guest Mr. Action and The Boss Guitars at Otto's Shrunken Head in NYC on Friday, July 22nd, we go on around 11pm. See SCHEDULE page for details.
May 18th, 2005 - We're putting the final touches on our 4 song CD "Invisible Planet" recorded by Rob Michaels at Glasswing Studios over the last 2 months. Rob has been really great to work with, and has been very patient, even during my temper tantrums (mild ones, of course). Thanks Rob! Jim (Mojito) has pulled together most of the artwork, and the CD should be ready by our June 4th show at DC9 with the Monsters from the Surf. The CD will contain our newest songs "Dark Pulsar" and "Sinister Island", along with the ever popular cool drink on the beach tune "10 miles to Nagshead", and the frantic "Balkan Stomp". Hope to see everyone at the June 4th show. Pray for surf - Art
