Notes:
!Source: "Statement of Genealogy", by James Hutchison, (His grandson),
Box 292, Renton Washington.
Notes:
!Notes: Grandfather James A. Hotchkiss listed the births of William and
Elspeth as about 1750 and 1780 respectively. If these were the parents
of the children listed here, these dates were of course wrong. Should
investigate. After reading the above source, I adjusted the dates as
listed here, estimating that William lived an average life of 70 years,
and the story below is still true. Note that Jean Armour was the poet
Robert Burn's second wife.
Notes:
!P: (Extracted from "Statement of Geneology" above. See the full text
under James Hutchison). Born somewhere in Ayrshire, Scotland in 1750
or 60's. He was a cotter (or cottager, a tenant farmer) by occupation.
Read Burn's "Cotters Saturday Night" for a good description of such a
humble tradesman. (A pretty and true picture.) He used to tell of going
to the same school and reading from the same book with Jean Armour,
burns wife. This is how I conclude when he was born. He died around
1844 at Dunfermline, Fifeshire, Scotland.
