Artist StatementMy priorities in life are simple: God, family, and work; however, since I was a child my number one passion has always been art. Art burns within me; its entire process is and always has been a means of joy to me; from concept to planning and execution to the wonderful feeling of satisfaction upon completion. Each step in this process is so tangible because the feedback is instantaneous. I work in a variety of medium; pencil, ink, pastel, charcoal, watercolor, acrylics, and oils to name a few. Most recently I have been focusing on oils with a smattering of figure drawing studies in pencil, charcoal, and pastel. My subject matter is varied as well, landscapes, still life, and portraits. Although, I do not consider myself an abstract artist I look for abstractions in the art I do. | ||||
BiographyI was born in the small town of Cortez in the south-west corner of Colorado, near Mesa Verde, in 1957. My family moved to Longmont in Boulder County in the early 1960's and I have been here ever since. I was fortunate to have landed a job as an illustrator with my current employer, IBM, in the late 1970's. I did illustration and graphic design there through the decade of the 1980's, during that time period I saw and embraced many changes in graphic design and I rode the wave of technology with enthusiasm; hence, I was instrumental in transforming work on the drawing board to the computer screen. I attended Regis University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems in 1999. I have studied oil painting with Jake Gaedtke, Don Sahli, Tim Diebler, Michelle Torrez, Jeanne Mackenzie, Kim English, Ken Valastro, and Scott Christensen. Also, I have studied pastels with Jan Myers and figure studies with Scott Fraser, John Taft, Jason Emery, and Gaynor Nelson. I am a member of the Denver Art Student's League, I have occasionally exhibited work there, and I am a member of the Longmont Council for the Arts. Showings:
