LPSGC Handicaps

Members of the Las Positas Senior Golf Club have two handicaps: a USGA Handicap^® maintained by the GHIN service and a "Local Handicap" maintained by the LPSGC Handicap Committee. In both cases the handicaps are expressed as Handicap Indexes which are converted to Course Handicaps for a specific set of tees. Refer to the USGA Handicap Manual, the handicapping equivalent to the Rules of Golf, for more information including the definition of several terms used here. If you have not had a USGA Handicap before, please read the information for new members.

Your LPSGC Local Handicap Index is determined using the same formula as used by the USGA, with these exceptions:

• only scores from LPSGC home events are considered;
• no upper limit is placed on the index (the USGA imposes a limit of 36.4);
• no penalty is applied for Exceptional Tournament Performance; and
• fewer differentials from the Local Scoring Record are used, as shown in the table below.
  

In addition, Local Handicap Indexes are revised after each club tournament for use in the next event.

Tournament Handicaps

Your "Tournament Handicap Index" (TI) in LPSGC home events is your LPSGC Local Handicap Index unless you have less than ten rounds in the LPSGC Scoring Record; in which case it is the smaller of your LPSGC index or your USGA index. Your "Tournament Handicap" (TH) is calculated from your Tournament Index by taking the rounded product of your TI and Course Slope rating divided by 113.

Stroke Allowance

"Stroke Allowance" is the number of handicap strokes that appears on a player's tournament score card. In most events it will be the same as his Tournament Handicap, but in some team events the Stroke Allowance might be 90% or 80% of the Tournament Handicap or possibly some other fraction.

In mixed-tee competitions, your Stroke Allowance will be further modified by the rounded difference in Course Rating between the tees you are playing and the default tees (where the majority of the field plays), as described in Section 3-5 of the USGA Handicap Manual.

The basis for the Stroke Allowance will be stated in the tournament instructions for each event. Remember to verify the Stroke Allowance on your score card prior to teeing-off and settle any discrepancies with The Committee before beginning your round.

Player Responsibilities

Under Rule 6-6, after the completion of the round the competitor must ensure that his marker has signed his score card and the competitor must sign (attest) the card himself. The Committee is responsible for the addition of scores and the application of handicap strokes.

Posting of Adjusted Gross Scores

The Handicap Committee is responsible for reviewing all score cards for each LPSGC home event and it will adjust and post the Adjusted Scores to the LPSGC Scoring Record and the GHIN Scoring Record, applying Equitable Stroke Control with both the Local and USGA Course Handicaps. Players are urged to check their Adjusted Scores in the LPSGC Detailed Scoring Record after each tournament.

Scores from our Club Championship and any individual-stroke NCGA qualifiers (where a player participates) will be posted as Tournament scores ("T" scores) in the GHIN service. All other LPSGC post-able event scores are recorded as Home scores ("H" scores).
