• Downhill Skiing

  Spiel Haus is conveniently located between two great alpine ski areas Winter Park/Mary Jane and Sol Vista Basin.

  • Winter Park/Mary Jane is located about 15-20minutes south of the house on Hwy 40 .
  • Sol Vista Basin is located north on Hwy 40 of the house about 10 minutes and is a great low-key family oriented beginner/intermediate mountain.
  • Discount Equipment: 
    • Winter Park/Mary Jane has discounts on ski and snowboards when you reserve ahead.
    • Colorado Ski Broker in Fraser is very good with group rates for groups of 10 or more.
  • Discount Lift tickets:
    • Winter Park/Mary Jane Resort offers multi-day passes which are a deal over single day passes at the regular ticket office. You can also stop on your way up to the house from Denver along I-70 at rental shops to get cheaper lift tickets. For example - www.maisondeski.com. Denver-area King Soopers and Safeway stores offer discount lift tickets sometimes too - give 'em a call.
    • www.skicoupons.com has discounts for Solvista Ski Resort.

• Cross Country Skiing

  Enjoy the serenity of gliding on groomed tracks or the untracked back country at the Devils Thumb Ranch  or Snow Mountain Ranch. Snow Mountain Ranch rents equipment!

   

• Tubing Hill - For a thrill try the Fraser Tubing Hill behind the Safeway in Fraser.
• Sleigh Ride - Snow Mountain Ranch . 
• Snowmobiling - Grand Adventures 800-979-0332 for reservations and information.
• Ice Skating -
  • Cooper Creek Square Rink - in Winter Park. Skating is free, skates may be rented at nearby Christy Sports (726-8873) or the Viking Lodge (726-8885).
  • Devil's Thumb Ranch - Skating is $5.00 for adults and $3 for kids. Skate rental is $3.00 for adults and children. Call 726-8231.
  • Fraser Valley Recreation Rink - Located in Fraser off County Rd. 5. No fee-bring your own skates. Call 726-4708.
  • YMCA/Snow Mountain Ranch - No fee-bring your own skates. Call 887-2152.

  • Snow Mountain Ranch offers swimming, indoor roller skating, a climbing wall and other activities only 5 minutes away.  In Granby there’s small skate board park and a great playground fort/climber for something different to do for the younger crowd, only minutes away.  For the adventuresome there is the hot springs in Hot Sulphur Springs.

Summer Fun

• Hiking: Fraser Valley offers plenty of hiking on 600 miles of national forests trails to hidden lakes and great alpine vistas (go to http://www.winterpark-info.com and click on trails) .  There’s even a guide book in the house for your use. For world-class hiking and scenery, Rocky Mountain National Park is a stone’s throw away to the north on Hwy 40/34. 

• Golf - There are 4 great Grand County courses

  • Golfing at Pole Creek is the closest (only 5 minutes from the house) across Hwy 40. Rick's pick!

  • Golfing at Grand Lake

  • Golfing at Sol Vista

  • Golfing at Grand Elk

• Mountain Biking: There are tons of trails in the area, with terrain available for all levels of riding skill. For beginners there is even the paved Fraser River Trail in and around town. See the abundant bike local shops for maps and trail conditions. Summer time you can even catch a lift and ride down Winter Park’s trails or a ride down the alpine slide. 

• Fishing: There is both stream and lake fishing in the area. Lake Granby and Grand Lake are to the north and offer sport fishing. For kids there is a stocked pond in Fraser. Check in with local fly shops in Tabernash, Fraser, and the Devils Thumb Ranch to find where the stream action is hot along the Fraser River.

• Horseback Riding: Enjoy a scenic ride from the stables at the Devils Thumb Ranch  (10 minutes away) or Snow Mountain Ranch (5 minutes away) . Also check Grand Adventures and Winding River Resort.
