Those Men in White

Wales v England

April 1999

In a land far away, as the sun shone bright,

Fifteen  lads, all muscle, brawn and some somewhat slight,

Faced the mighty enemy, those men in white.

They  ran and puffed and strived with all their might

Against those fabulous men in white.

But soon fell behind in their uphill fight

As Luger ran in on feet so light,

To score for those men in white.

 Wales 0- England 7

But the mighty Jenk’s with an Eagle's sight,

Placed two kicks thro’ the upright

And caught up with the men in white.

 Wales 6- England 7

Yet, the men in white kept up the fight

And with two more tries showed their might

That even Jenk's could not fight.

 Wales 18- England 25

After the rest, they continued their fight,

Those brave men in red against those giants in white.

They blitzed and Jenk's brought them in sight.

 Wales 25- England 25

The giants in white, with all their might,

Scored again to put it all out of sight.

Or so they thought, those men in white.

 Wales 25- England 31

With a minute left, those men in white

Thought they had again had won the fight.

But those men in red sent Scott Gibbs in flight,

Who scored to really put it right.

 Wales 31- England 31

And then Jenk's stood tall and with no fright

Sent the ball sailing through the upright.

And the little men in red, their eyes shining bright

Had beaten those mighty men in white.

Wales 32- England 31

When young Welsh men in future bright

Look back to this mighty fight,

They will take heart and again fight the good fight,

Against those mighty good men,

Those men in white.
