Barnard Hutchinson of Cowlam, County of York, living in the year 1282 |
Samuel, the grandson of Richard Hutchinson, b. 1602, moved from Salem, MA to Windham, CT between 1709 and 1710. His son, Samuel, b. 1718, removed to Norwich, VT in 1765 where they made a permanent settlement on the Connecticut River. The family stayed in Norwich, VT until Frederick Hutchinson, b. 1828, moved to Clay, Iowa about 1858. Frederick’s son, Charles Frederick Hutchinson, b. 1853, moved with his wife and two children to Smith County, KS in 1878. Here the family went through the hardships and rigors of pioneer homesteading and brought forth a family of 14 children in all, of which 10 grew to maturity— eight brothers and two sisters. Charles Frederick Hutchinson and his wife spent the rest of their lives on the homestead which Charles named THE WELCOME STOCK FARM. This farm was widely known for its pedigreed livestock and cheese manufactured there.
