Oldest Known Ancestor
Henrico Co. Virginia in the Varnia Parish register in 1728
Matthew Hutcheson is first recorded in Henrico Co. Virginia in the Varnia Parish register in 1728.. He bought land on the North side of the James in 1734. He died in 1755 in Goochalnd Co. Va. leaving wife Ellender and five children Elizabeth, Matthew Jr., Hannah, David & William. David our ancestor and William are twins born ca 1741.
David marries Hannah Marshall , daughter of John Marshall and Hannah Baldwin. He moves along with brother-in-law Wm. Johnson, ca 1764 to Lunenberg/Charlotte Co. Va area. Around 1780 he buys land in Bedford Co. Va. and by 1784 is in Campbell Co. Brother William dies in Campbell co. in 1793.
By the early 1790's David has moved his family of ten known children and at least one son of his brother William to Green Co. KY. There the name was recorded early on as Hutcheson, Hutchason, Hutchison. David died in Green Co. in 1811.
David's fifth son was Hutty B. born in Va ca. 1782. In 1810 Hutty married his first wife Elizabeth Lee in Green Co. According to census records at least 10 children were born before Elizabeth's death ca 1834. Only two, Thomas S. born ca 1822 (d. ca 1893 DeWitt Co. IL) and Tabitha Susan b. ca 1820 ( married Geo. Isbell d. 1859 Newton Co. IA) are confirmed.
By 1835 Hutty has remarried to Deborah Ray (she appears to have been married previously). Two boys are born before Hutty's death about 1845. Our direct ancestor is Benjamin Franklin Hutcherson, the second son, born 1838 in Green Co.
Benjamin F. was married twice. There were no children from the first marriage. Fifteen children were born to Benjamin F. and his second wife Martha A. Allen. Twelve of these were males and most stayed in Larue Co. where Benjamin Franklin became the preacher at the South Fork Baptist Church near Buffalo, KY.
Their fourth child was Joseph Benjamin Hutcherson b. 1868 in Larue Co. He also became a preacher after moving to neighboring Hardin Co. Ky where this branch of the family remained.
Joseph B.'s son is the father of this project member.
