Richard Riggs lives with his family in West Salem. Rich and his wife, Shannon, will celebrate their 19th wedding anniversary this September. The Riggs' children attend public schools, are honor roll students, and play in several school bands. The Riggs family enjoys walking their dogs, gardening, hunting, fishing, and camping.

Shannon works as a writer and college writing instructor. Shannon's first book,
Not in Room 204, a children's picture book about childhood sexual abuse, won the 2007 Oregon Book Award for Children's Literature. Shannon volunteers on the Salem-Keizer School District's Sexual Abuse Prevention Team, and was the keynote speaker for the 2007 Liberty House Champions for Children Luncheon.
