Tied "Tray"

TIED "TRAY"

AVERAGE: For those with some experience in sewing.

MATERIALS:
Two 10" squares of fabric and scraps for ties
corrugated cardboard

DIRECTIONS:
1. TIES: Cut 8 strips, each 1 1/2" x 7".
Press them in half lengthwise, right side out; press the raw edges to meet the centerfold; stitch along the open edge to make ties.
Pin the ties to one of the fabric squares, 2" from each corner, right sides together and raw edges even; stitch across the end of each tie; knot the opposite end.

2. Seam (1/2") the 2 squares (enclosing ties) around 3 edges.
Turn the right side out and press.
Lightly draw a line 1 3/4" from each edge.

3. CARDBOARD: From the cardboard, cut one 5 1/4" square and four 1 3/4" x 5 1/4" strips.
Stitch the fabric across a pair of opposite drawn lines (one at each side of the open edge)>
In between them, drop a cardboard strip; push its long edge against the opposite seam; with a zipper foot, stitch across the lower line parallel to that seam.
Drop a strip into each border and drop the square between them.
Stitch across the top drawn line; drop in the last strip; turn in the open edges and slipstitch.
