TWIG DOLL FURNITURE

This craft is of AVERAGE difficulty. It is for those with some experience in woodworking

MATERIALS Twigs -- 1"-dia., 3/4"-dia., 3/8-to 1/2"-dia. 1/2" x 12" x 18" common pine, rough on one side 3d finishing nails glue stain
TOOLS Drill 1/4", 3/8", 1/2" drill bits hammer

DIRECTIONS 1. Since various sizes of twigs are used, 3 drill-bit sizes are needed -- 1/4", 3/8", 1/2"
2. Drill 1/4", 3/8" and 1/2" holes in a scrap block of wood. This is your test block. With a razor blade or knife, trim 1/4" of bark from the end of the twig and fit it into the appropriate hole in the block (snug). If it is too large, trim it with a rasp or rough file. Use that size drill for the support hole.
3. Put glue on the end of the twig and in the hole. Fit it in tight. Drive a nail through the joint from the opposite side to secure.
4. Note that the seat has quarter-circle notches for the legs (see Twig Furniture Pattern)

BEDDING AND CUSHION FOR TWIG FURNITURE
DIRECTIONS 1. MATTRESS: Cut 2 pieces of fabric and one of batting, all 14" x 22". With the fabric sides facing, seam them around 3 sides and 4 corners. Turn the right sides out; turn in the open edges and slipstitch. Tack or tie the layers together in 6 to 8 places.
2. QUILT: In a different fabric, make the quilt like the mattress, but with 20" x 24" pieces -- 2 of fabric and 2 of batting.
3. PILLOW: Seam two 11" x 14" pieces around 3 sides and 4 corners; turn the right side out and press. Topstitch about 1 1/4" from the 3 closed sides. Fill with synthetic stuffing. Turn in the open ends and slipstitch; then topstitch this edge.
4. CHAIR CUSHION: Cut two 8" squares and one strip 2 1/4" x 16". Fold the strip in half and press; fold the raw edges to meet the centerfold and edgestitch the open side. Cut the strip in half and knot the four ends (2 ties). Fold each tie in half and pin 1 fold to each of two adjacent corners of one of the squares, with the knotted ends pointed toward the center. Pin the other square on top, right sides together (over ties), and stitch around 3 sides and 4 corners. Turn the right side out and stuff; turn in the open ends and slipstitch.
