MOB Fall Meet 2003
Saturday September 20, 2003

Greetings,
Well, the last wet meet of the MOB is now history and what a way to end the boating season. Saturday, September 20th couldn’t have been any better, clear skies, calm water and plenty of blue smoke. I guess about 50 or so members showed up and a tremendous amount of motors were for sale. If someone did not find a winter project at this meet, it was his or her own fault. There were about 6 or 8 boats in the water with someone out running something all day. Many members shared rides and got out on the water. Some of the motors that were out on the lake that day included a bunch of Caille motors. A Model 79, Liberty Single, and a Model 16 were out getting some much-needed exercise. A pair of Evinrude Fastwin 14 was seen on the back of Jim Hickman’s Lone Star. Skip Paul brought a “Frankenstein” motor, which was a four-stroke lawn mower powerhead, mounted on a Johnson 5 ˝ lower unit. At this event the John Sudlow Memorial Award is given to the best running “under 30 cubic inch” motor and is voted on by the general membership. JJ Walls won the event with his 1917 Caille Liberty Single, followed closely by Tom Goepfrich with the Caille Model 16. Jay Walls brought a trailer full of motors for sale and quite a few of them found new homes. The motors were from the collection of Dave Caldwell who passed away recently. I believe Mark Zimmerli bought a restored Johnson V-45 from the collection. Lunch was something different this year. It was decided to hold a picnic and most of the items were paid for out by the MOB Chapter. The event was a huge success and the cook out will hopefully become an event both at the spring and fall meet. Nothing like the smell of hot dogs and hamburgers being grilled outside, along with the sights and sounds of old iron in the background. I know I was still trying to recoup on Sunday, did not unpack until the afternoon. Oh what a time we had!
See Ya On The Water,
