Appenzeller’s Meet
Saturday March 18th, 2006
By Rick Eichrodt
On Saturday March 18th,
2006 the Appenzeller brothers opened their shop to the Michiana Outboard
Boating Chapter for the March dry meet.
Their shop is located on SR15 just south of Milford Indiana. It was a cold Indiana day but the weather inside the shop
was warm and friendly. It was a record
turnout for this meet with about 50 members showing up. The motor display was overflowing with 25 motors
and different display items. Greg Schmidt
had a real nice display of Johnson catalogs from the 1920’s. Other motors on display were three
Ruddertwins, Johnson PR Racer, Martin HS-60, Johnson P-30, A-25, Evinrude Mate,
1947 Evinrude Sportsman, Martin 60, Scott Atwater 5 horse, Mercury MK7, 1936
Evinrude Fisherman, 1939 Bendix SMD, 1947 Evinrude Sportsman 4416, and many
other motors. A local resident, while
passing by, stopped to check things out.
He returned home and picked up his antique outboard. He returned to delight the many MOB’sters
with an original 1928 Elto Quad! It was
in fantastic shape, having been restored by the factory many years ago. It was owned by his father, who sent it back
to be refurbished. It was NOT for sale
although he had many offers. The swap
and sell area was packed with items for sale and many members went home with
parts and project motors. Lunch was
provided by the Appenzeller brothers and the fare was their award winning B-B-Q
sandwiches, cole slaw, chips, hot coffee, soft drinks and it was consumed with
little leftovers. A big “Thank You” goes
out to the Appenzeller family for their hospitality and facility. After the
luncheon, a business meeting was held with Jay Walls, Chapter President,
presiding. The meetings main topic was
the upcoming Constantine Super Meet.
After the meeting, the gang continued to mill around, shopping, telling
stories or just enjoying the afternoon.
About 3:00PM, things started to quiet down as the members started to
head home. I just wanted to say thanks
to all the members who came out and a special thanks to the Appenzeller
brothers who allowed us to have this meet at their shop.
See Ya On The Water!
