Fillinger’s Frostbite Fling

January 21, 2006

On Saturday January 21, the MOB started the 2006 Antique season with the first meet of the year.  Again this year, the meet was held at Stuart Fillinger’s Marine located in Monticello, Indiana.  Stuart and his family opened up their store to about 30 cold MOB’sters.  The attendance was a bit small compared to last year but the cold weather and high gas prices may have kept members closer to home.  Those members who did attend were treated to a wonderful luncheon and plenty of motor talk.  The swap and sell area was pretty sparse but some items did exchanged hands.  Inside the members milled about, checking the motors and duck boat that was on display.  There were about 15 motors that were on display, among them a newly restored Martin High Speed 60 and Koenig “B” class racer of the 1950’s.  A Bendix single, Elto Ace, Martin 40, Neptune Single, Submerged Electric, Sea King, Motorgo Junior and a Johnson A were some of the motors on display.

Inside the shop is a test tank and quite a few MOB’sters took advantage of the chance to test run their motors.  There were a lot of opinions why some of the motors did not run.  The test tank got quite a work out that day.  Some of the newly acquired motors were given a chance to see if they would come back to life.  If nothing else, the motors were checked out enough to see what needed to be repaired or replaced.

Lunch was served around noon and the pork tenderloins, French fries and onion rings were delicious.  After the lunch, a business meeting was held, the new blue dash plaques were given out for the display motors and various items were discussed on the upcoming events for 2006.

After the meeting, the members milled around the test tank, watching different motors taking their turns in the test waters.  In the middle afternoon, the members started leaving and around 3:00PM, the first meet of 2006 was history.
