About Shannon

When Shannon was a little girl, she played at two things. One was being a writer. Shannon wrote stories, poems, and articles and would often create pretend newspapers, including the ads and pictures. (Shannon was also an avid note writer and passed approximately 1.7 billion notes in class during middle school alone.)

When Shannon wasn’t playing at being a writer, she was playing school, making up homework assignments, tests, and writing on her chalkboard. (She was always the teacher.) Now that Shannon is grown up, guess what she does for a living? She works as a writer and a teacher, of course! She enjoys her jobs so much that a lot of times she says she still feels like she’s playing!

Shannon’s husband, Rich, is a retired Navy officer, which means that they have moved many, many, many times. They have lived in New York, Rhode Island, Virginia, Florida, California (for a few weeks), Oregon, Washington, Hawaii, and Victoria, BC, Canada—some of these places more than once! Shannon now lives in Oregon, and she says she is never going to move again. Ever. Rich is currently a student in law school and serves on the Board of Directors for Chemeketa Community College.

Shannon has two children, Sabrina and Jake. Sabrina is a talented artist, and both she and Jake are avid readers and talented musicians. The Riggs home is full of two things—books and music!
