Friends of Ringer Park was initially founded in 1983 by a group of neighbors. They hosted regular park cleanups and played a catalytic role in the City of Boston's decision to build the first 'tot lot' in the 12.38-acre park. The group underwent a period of latency with sporadic activity by individual members. The Allston Brighton CDC, after hosting a series of community conversations in the winter of 2003, recognized a neighborhood desire to improve Ringer Park and provided organizing support. Since then, Friends of Ringer Park has met regularlyto address several of the community's concerns about the park and its usage. In the winter of 2006, Friends of Ringer Park proudly announced its formation as an independent organization by approving by-laws, creating a mission statement, and electing a board of directors.
