What to Expect at a Sunday Service

We recognize that it can be a bit intimidating coming into a church service for the very first time. We thought it might be helpful to give you a bit of a heads up on what to expect.

First, you will notice our music. The first 20-25 minutes of the service are spent in singing songs. But, it's not just singing songs, it is kind of like a prayer meeting with songs. In between songs, opportunities to respond to the song in prayer or thanksgiving is provided.

The music is contemporary in style. You will also observe people clapping their hands, raising their hands and sometimes kneeling. These are Biblical expressions of worship to God. We don't expect you to know the songs, so the words are projected in the front of the church. If you don't know the tune, just listen and join in when you are ready.

After the music, time is given for announcements, drama and special presentations. This is also when we take up the offering. We view giving as part of the worship experience.

The final piece of the morning is the message. This is a time when a Bible verse or topic is tackled by the pastor. To help people interact with the material, sometimes a hand out is provided, a powerpoint presentation is utilized and video, or music clips are used to bring the ideas to life.

The most often asked question is: What do I wear? You will see all styles at Riverside Assembly. We provide a very comfortable setting that focuses on people and not appearance.
