how do people explain to their alters that integration does not mean killing them? i need to convince the kids that they are no longer in the past and the best way is for us all to live together in the present as one. does anybody have hints?
I have just been diagnosed. I find that my alter controls me quite a bit. She likes to mutilate. She cuts my arms up with razors to help ease the pain. I am trying to deal but finding it really really hard. Hope this site can help me.

Hi, I am looking for opinions from people with DID. I have all of the following symptoms (which I found on webMD under DID): depression, mood swings, suicidal tendencies (one actual attempt), sleep disorders (as a child & youth insomnia & night terrors, now as an adult I can sleep all day and all night constantly if I let myself), anxiety, alcohol abuse, compulsions and rituals, & psychotic-like symptoms (auditory hallucinations). I have proof of dissociative amnesia. I have experienced time loss, trances, and "out of body experiences." I have a tendency toward self-persecution, self-sabotage, and even violence (both self-inflicted and outwardly directed). My compulsions are for pornography. I feel I am being compelled to do it. It feels like being a passenger in my body rather than the driver. I stand to lose my wife and children, and my job, because of it, and have attempted all sorts of self-injury to stop myself, but have finally given up all hope of ever stopping. My understanding from my desperate research to fix myself is that these are signs of DID, but as far as I know I've never manifested an alter (I've talked to people I can trust that I am very close to who would have to have noticed). So what is really wrong with me and what can I do about. I have no insurance and no money for any kind of professional assistance. If someone can recommend a book that would be really great.
