Hints
and Tips:
While planning our
trip here are some things I learned. Your experience my differ under different
circumstances, so take these for what they are worth.
- Getting an exact
route, with exact camps for exact dates is EXTREMELY difficult. A little
flexibility goes a long way. If you can, I would suggest figuring out
the camps you want, then let Glacier determine the dates. Also, allow
them to substitute camps for you if the ones you want aren't available.............
but beware, they allow themselves a lot of liberty. One of my failed
iternaries was assigned a day lay over at the same camp, something I
really didn't want to do.
- Reservations received
before April 15th will be randomly sorted and filled (it's recommended
you don't send it before April 1st). Don't be late, those received after
April 15th are done first come first served. Download the reservation
form from Glaciers Website, and be ready to send it in at the earliest
possible time.
- If you are going
to walk in a request a route, do your homework. Know the trails and
camps well so you won't be relying solely on the ranger for help. The
rangers will thank you.
- We found the shuttle
buses to be an effective means of getting around the park. We rode the
bus from Logan's Pass up to Waterton, and the again from Lake MacDonald
Lodge to Jackson Glacier Overlook. It was a little costly and somewhat
slow, but it worked out fine.
- Above all else,
have fun. Planning the trip can be almost as exciting as the trip itself.
I found getting know the areas you're going to be in to be a very exhilirating
experience.

Here are the sources
I used to plan our trip. The following sources were an immense help, especially
Glacier's website which has a wealth of information on it. It's a must
vist before heading to the park.
