Director Linda Stevens was unable to fill all the required roles in the originally scheduled production of The Dining Room, so another play, 2 Across by Jerry Mayer will take its place. The play features two strangers, later known as Josh (Bob Nuss of Yarmouthport) and Janet (Karen McPherson of Chatham), who board a San Francisco BART train at 4:30 A.M. Alone in the car, both tackle the New York times Crossword. She's an organized, sensible Catholic psychologist, he a free-spirited, unemployed Jewish ad exec. She's a crossword pro; he always quits. When he tosses his puzzle away, she snaps, "Crosswords are a metaphor for life. Those who finish, succeed. Those who don't fail." Competition is ignited, and we start a 90 minute ride described by critics as "Hilarious," "Witty," "Poignant," and "Wonderfully entertaining." Two oppposites in an enclosed space, attacking each other's values but also being swayed and intrigued by them. Each has a serious life predicament that the other helps solve...might romance follow? It's a trip filled with unpredictable but believable surprises. We're intrigued and we know you will be, too.
2 Across will be presented March 13-15, 21-22, 28-29 at 8 p.m. and March 16, 23, and 30 at 2:30 p.m. Tickets are $16, $14 students and seniors.
