Thoughts
on the Theory of Evolution
In the past I have been a believer
in the theory of evolution, but have had a change of mind as a Christian.
Even when I did subscribe to the theory of evolution there were aspects
that I was never comfortable with. Some of my thoughts on evolution
are presented below.
What are the Odds:
Even the simplest forms of life
are incredibly complex, and the proponents of evolution have evaded this
issue by plunging it into a nebulous abyss of time. In other words
they propose that given sufficient time the complexity of life could happen
by accident. You can believe whatever you choose to, but to me it
is like smashing a fine Swiss watch and then wondering how long you would
have to jumble the pieces together until the watch would come back together
again.
All or Nothing:
Biological structures and functions
tend to be all or nothing. For example for a creature to achieve
flight it must have a full set of specialized parts to accomplish this.
It has been proposed that soaring could be intermediate to flight, but
I take exception to this, and suggest that soaring and true flight involve
entirely different mechanisms. In other words having one piece of
the puzzle doesn't work without the rest.
Transitional Forms:
Evolution must account for numerous
leaps in form including evolutionary transitions from sea to land, from
land to sea, from eggs to live birth, etc. I consider it to be irreconcilable
that any organism that the evolutionist argues is an intermediate form
I will argue is actually a complete form. At least to this point
I have not seen an intermediate form that can not be contested. One
creature classically claimed as an example of an intermediate form is the
Archaeopteryx, an extinct feathered creature with teeth in its mouth and
claws on its' wings. There are, however, still living bird's with
claws on their wings, which appear to me to be quite functional (the hoatzin,
Ophisthocomus hoatdzin). The touraco and ostrich also have claws
on their wings. See here
for more information.
Rapid appearance:
Widely diverse life forms appear
rapidly in the fossil record, and the proponents of evolution account for
this by proposing that evolution occurs rapidly at times and then levels
out for extended periods of time. It seems to me that the Biblical
story of creation fits the evidence better and provides a more clear explanation
than the evolution scenario.
Balance of Nature:
An outstanding characteristic of
nature is the delicate balance that exists. Evolution relies on survival
of the fittest to provide stronger and more advanced offspring, which describes
a system of imbalance. If a predator became too proficient the prey
would be driven into extinction, and then the predator would go extinct.
Life Spans:
Recently evidence has come forward
that life spans are genetically determined. Whats up with that, if
evolution drives biological forms based on survival, wouldn't a longer
life span enhance survival, and therefore evolution drive life spans to
the maximum extent possible. The scientific evidence appears to better
support Biblical accounts, for example the Biblical reference to GOD numbering
the years of man.
Eve:
Another interesting scientific fact
can be referred to as the Eve Hypothesis. Mitochondrial DNA is different
from nuclear DNA in that it does not undergo recombination, but is transferred
directly form the mother to the offspring. Scientists have determined
that no significant difference exists with mitochondrial DNA between people
of all races. This confirms that we all arise from one common ancestor,
which sounds a lot like Adam and Eve to me. It seems to me that if
genetic mutations were occurring in individuals at random then evolution
would be proceeding in several directions simultaneously for any given
species. If this were true shouldn't there should several homo-whatevers
around instead of only one species of man?
Genetic Deterioration:
Genetic material tends to deteriorate
through time, certainly for an individual during their lifetime, and also
I believe for a species as time progresses. Inbreeding results in
the appearance of recessive genetic defects such as club feet, etc.
I for one am glad that Adam and Eve apparently didn't have many or any
such defects.
Progression of Form:
An evolutionist will point to the
similarities, and the apparent progression of form among species.
In other words for example amphibian to reptile, ape to man, etc.
I prefer to believe that the similarities can be explained by the idea
that all life was created by the same manufacturer, GOD. I am sure
that a progression of automobiles could be arranged from the Edsel to the
Porsche, which could convincingly demonstrate that the Porsche evolved
from the Edsel, of course, given sufficient time.
See here
for the evolution of a Bond car.
Species:
Another hurdle for evolution to
overcome is the species boundary. There is no evidence of one species
giving rise to another, oops, am I forgetting the nebulous abyss of time
that accounts for this lack of evidence.
Mutation:
Evolution relies on genetic mutations
for the advancement of species. Genetic mutation tends to be a destructive
process, and almost always results in damage, not good. In other
words evolution relies on a destructive process to be constructive.
The beliefs expressed here are
my own, and are intended to open the hearts of unbelievers to receive revelation
of the truth of GOD and salvation. I do not intend to represent myself
as an absolute authority or expert. I believe that the Holy Bible
is the infallible word of GOD and that the information provided here is
borne out by this word, but don't take my word for it, always test everything
said against the Holy Word of GOD. Please e-mail Here
