Bedford Family Connection (BFC)

The Bedford Family Connection has some great events planned. You'll see them listed on our calendar. Join the BFC by filling in the membership form.

The Bedford Family Connection (BFC) is a non-profit, volunteer-run organization which exists as a means to bring families with young children together. The organization has grown over the years from an initial 15 members in 1988 to the current 175 member families from Bedford and surrounding towns.

One of the most visible attractions of the BFC is its popular playroom. The playroom is a toy-filled, bright, open space located downstairs at the First Parish Church in Bedford. The playroom is open every weekday morning from 9:30 to 11:30 and loosely follows the Bedford public school calendar. The playroom offers a warm, informal atmosphere where children can play together while parents and caregivers supervise and chat. Members pay $0.50 per child per day; non-members are welcome to try it out for $2.00 per child per day.

The BFC provides many opportunities throughout the year for member families to meet each other, socialize and have fun with our kids! In order to accommodate members’ varied schedules, activities are planned both during the week and on weekends.

A sampling of our most popular family-oriented activities are:

  • Fire truck wash
  • Pot luck dinners
  • Evening storytimes
  • Bowling and mini-golf
  • Trips to various farms and petting zoos
  • Springtime Egg Hunt
  • Halloween Party

And…all outings aren’t planned just for kids! Evening workshops are scheduled with topics pertinent to parents of young children. Past topics have included everything from financial planning, interior decorating, to even dealing with picky eaters. And let’s not omit the well-deserved Mom’s Night Out activities. Mom’s Nights are both popular and well attended. A Dad’s Corner was formed in 1996 to plan and enjoy activities specific to dads and their kids. In 2005, the BFC formed the Working Parents Network, with special activities and networking opportunities during nights and weekends.

With your yearly membership comes a monthly newsletter. The BFC newsletter offers an excellent forum to share information about the organization. In addition to including details regarding upcoming events, members can place classified ads. So whether you are looking for a babysitter or have a crib to sell, the newsletter is an excellent tool to get the word out!The BFC also publishes a pre-school directory to assist members in researching preschools and daycare. In order to address some of the unique needs and issues of adoptive families, an Adoptive Family Liaison position has recently been added to the board to help keep members informed of speakers, programs, etc of specific interest to adoptive families. Organized playgroups are another benefit of membership. Playgroups are created for those members who wish to belong to a small, organized group of similarly aged children.

In addition, the BFC participates in many charitable activities, as well as Bedford Day. It has used its newsletter to disseminate information on issues that affect families with young children. Most importantly, beyond the obvious benefits of joining and participating in the BFC, is the number of friendships it has fostered between families. The BFC provides members with a strengthened sense of community while creating and nurturing important relationships while our children are young.

Join the BFC! Please respond by filling out the attached form and mail with a check made out to The Bedford Family Connection with your annual dues payment of $20.00. Remember, there are so many opportunities to get involved, and all are encouraged to do so. The BFC is a strong group because of the people who make up the organization. The BFC looks forward to meeting you and your family.

Print and mail the membership form.

Notes:

The BFC collects Boxtops for Education food labels. This program provides our local schools with 10 cents for every Boxtops for Education label collected. You'll find a canister for the labels in the playroom.

BFC Newsletter submissions are due by the 20th of the previous month (so September 20 for October issue).
