From Behind the Library Desk - Happy Holidays From Your Brookville Library

We're only two weeks into December and here at Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library we've been extra busy with a bake sale, book sale, children's tea and a book signing by local author, Jan Sady. I hope you made it a point to come join us for any or all of these events that took place during Brookville's Victorian Christmas Celebration. It's not too late to drop by and see our Christmas decorations or take a moment to enjoy the teapots and teddy bears in our display case.

This year, 2006, has been a busy and productive one for our library. There have been monthly events for the children and teens, the much awaited and well attended June book sale, discussion groups and book signings, not to mention the addition of a fantastic mural in the children's area. A new storage shed was added because we were literally bursting at the seams in our main building. A library needs books and we are pleased to note that our shelves are brimming with new and used editions made possible by our faithful patrons who not only see a need, but fill it. Due to a grant, we were able to add many new how-to books to our collection and can honestly say there is something for everyone from artist to zookeeper.

An extra note of thanks goes to our wonderful volunteers who worked tirelessly and often behind the scenes to make RMAL an exceptional library. More than once I have witnessed newcomers to the area as they visited us for the first time. Their comments were always the same. "What a wonderful library you have! We never expected it in such a small community!" Volunteers are definitely a contributing factor and we'd be lost without them.

But December isn't over and there is still a special event coming for kids from K-6. It's a Christmas Party with stories, caroling, games, cookies and cocoa. The time is 4-5 p.m. and the date is December 20. So mark your calendars and come to the library for an hour of fun, festivities and food! Santa Claus will be here on Wednesday, December 20 from 10:30-11:15AM for the Tiny Tots Christmas Party and on Thursday, December 21 from 10:00-11:00AM for Preschool Story Hour. Call the library for details.
