From Behind the Library Desk - Girls Just Wanna' Move Shelves!!!
Moving with determination, and only occasionally bumping into one another, these five energetic girls ranging in age from 11 ˝ to 14 undertook the difficult task of rearranging several of the cumbersome bookshelves in order to create a "new space" at Rebecca M Arthurs Library. Thanks to these industrious young ladies (members of local Girl Scout Cadet Troop 218 earning their Silver Award) we now have a Young Adult Area complete with donated carpeting from Galbraith's Furniture and two blue chairs donated by Martin's of Dubois. The girls themselves contributed hot pink chairs, plus assorted furniture. This work was all done on a volunteer basis and we owe them a great big thank you. Now, when our young teens come in, they will have an area where they can find books for their age group and a fun place in which to read them. The girls were overheard to comment, "This is really cool!"
On another note, we have some new "old" items in the display case and for those who are fanciers of antique and collectible dolls, you will find this to be quite interesting. Be sure to stop and check out this unique display let us know what you think about it. You might even see a doll you played with as a child!
The children's summer reading program is going full speed and we thought you should know that there is also something special going on for the adult reader. When you come in to the library you'll see a basket filled with "goodies" on the counter. To be eligible to win the basket, just put your name and phone number on a slip of paper and drop it into the jar each time you read a book. On August 30th a name will be drawn at random and that lucky person will take home the basket and its contents. I can guarantee you will like what is in there!
Speaking of adult books, we have now added the Avalon series. These are fictional, romance, mystery and western books with good stories and wholesome entertainment. This collection can be found on a revolving display at the back of the library near the exit. We've had a very good response to this series and more books are on their way.
And finally, the mural in the children's area is "growing" again…I won't give away what Harry and his crew have planned for it, but I will tell you that the new additions will be larger than life and something to ooh and ahh about.
I hope you will stop by soon..to enter the adult reading give away, to watch the mural in progress, to visit and talk about our display, or just to stop by the desk and say hello.
It wouldn't be the library without you.
