From Behind the Library Desk - Giving Thanks

It's that time of year again, when we look back on the past few months and think about those things for which we are most grateful.

At Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library we are certainly grateful for the many patrons who have walked through our doors. As someone who gets to stand behind the checkout desk on a regular basis, I can attest to the fact that we have a busy, friendly, and much appreciated library. In turn, we value all our patrons, those who use our services, those who give of their time and energies, and those who support us financially.

We try to remember to say "thank you" on a regular basis and this November we are adding a special thank you by offering all our patrons a Fine Free Week November 13th through the 19th. This means that any item (book, video, DVD, audio book, etc) can be returned without any fine whatsoever. So, when you're cleaning out that closet in anticipation of relatives coming for the holidays and you find something from the library that's three months overdue..bring it in…fine free! We'll just say thank you and wish you a happy holiday. As always, you can leave items in the drop box just inside the front door twenty-four hours a day if our schedules don't coincide with yours. If you have any questions about fine-free-week, just call us or ask one of the librarians for details when you stop by.

November's calendar has other special events in store. Our library is joining the nationwide celebration of Children's Book Week November 13-19 and will be having a Blue Clues Day on Sunday, November 19, from 2:00 - 3:30 pm. There will be stories, crafts, snacks and games and an opportunity to have a photo taken with Blue for $3.00.

Another event is the I Love That Book! Elementary Writing Contest. Children in grades K-6 are encouraged to write a story about why they love their favorite book or author. Winning stories will be submitted to the local newspapers. Contact the library for complete details.

I would like to add a personal note to this month's article. In this, my first year at Rebecca M. Arthurs Memorial Library, I have been privileged to meet the nicest people while doing a job that I truly love. When RMAL first came to Brookville in 1959, I was a teenager living just three doors away and spent many hours there in the company of books. Now, it's my pleasure to be doing that again, only this time I also get to meet you, our patrons, and for that I am indeed grateful.

In closing, the Board of Directors and the library staff want to take this opportunity to wish all of you a Happy Thanksgiving.
