I am an Airbus 320 pilot for a major airline. I've worked as an airline pilot since 1977, and have also flown the DeHavilland Twin Otter, DeHavilland Dash 7, Boeing 727, BAC 1-11, Douglas DC-9, and Boeing 737.
I graduated from the University of Colorado Law School in 1978, and got an LL.M. in Labor and Employment from Georgetown University Law School in 1996. I am a member of the Bar in Pennsylvania, Colorado, and the District of Columbia. I have written in the area of mental disability law, and mediated employment discrimination cases for the EEOC for several years. My wife and I live in Eugene, Oregon.
I do not own stock in any headset manufacturer, retailer, or distributor.
Several years ago, I started looking for an ANR headset to use in the 737-300/400. I found little information about them other than advertising. I posted questions on newsgroups, talked with the ALPA engineering folks, and spoke to headset manufacturers in an effort to make an informed purchase.
After I began using my new headset, I found that other pilots were interested in my headset and the technology of active noise reduction. Because the same questions kept coming up, I realized that a site might be useful to others. The information I collected during my search formed the foundation of this site.
I have been greatly assisted by the contributions of others. I've tried to credit everybody who sent a pirep. Jamie Smith provided the initial push that got me interested in the subject. Erik Dickersbach helped me streamline the formatting so that the site loads quicker and looks better. Gene Litzau of Telex, and Mike Feldbauer of Sennheiser consulted endlessly (and patiently) on the phone. Mike Shelton of ALPA Engineering was helpful (and patient). While everyone's help was invaluable and appreciated, any mistakes on the site are mine.
