Quaker City Chapter
In 1897, Miss Elizabeth Massey, along with Mrs. Carhart, Mrs. Evans, and Miss Huey, led the initiative to organize a new chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution in the City of Brotherly Love. At that time, the Philadelphia Chapter was the only chapter in the municipality, insufficient for the large and historic Quaker City. On December 9, 1897, the Quaker City Chapter met in Carpenter’s Hall for presentation of the charter by Mrs. A. D. Brockett, Vice President General; Mrs. Charlotte Emerson Main, Recording Secretary General; and Mrs. Keim, Past National Officer. Mrs. George Kendrick, Jr., Organizing Regent, accepted the charter. The 74 members of the Quaker City Chapter comprised the first body of women ever to meet in this historic building.
