August 2002:

Theresa and I travelled to San Francisco for a week's vacation. We ate in many fine restaurants and went sightseeing through all parts of the city. The neighborhoods of San Francisco have their own individual personalities, and each offers a unique aspect to the visitor.

There's lots of stuff to do in San Francisco and the surrounding area. After a week of "playing tourist", we still have only scratched the surface of what the city has to offer. The links below lead to photo galleries of some of the sights we took in during our trip. These pages are very graphically intensive, so they may take a while to fully load depending on your 'net connection.

Alcatraz Island:

I decided not to post the pictures we took at Alcatraz, mostly because it's not a very attractive place. None of the pictures can really do it justice. The island as a whole is neat, but what's visible through the camera lens doesn't translate well. To coax some real interesting imagery out would have taken more than a point-n-shoot. Really capturing the atmosphere is difficult when shooting around the crowds of tourists wandering about. Alcatraz is really one of those places you have to see in person to appreciate.

Actually, I fibbed a little. This picture is pretty interesting, even if it looks better as a print than a scan. It's the lighthouse, which still is in active use today.
