The entire spring was spend building the new features in the backyard: gravel walkway, arbor, and new raised beds.

Be sure and check out the buttons at the bottom to see the progress over the last 3 seasons.

peony.jpg (8280 bytes)Michael's Chinese Tree Peony "Grand Duke Dressed in Purple and Blue" from Cricket Hill Garden, Thomaston, CT. Amazing fragrance.

daffodils.jpg (12140 bytes)The new front bed with the 120 daffodils planted last fall. Lovely!

tulips2000.jpg (11254 bytes)The species tulips (origin: Turkey) lasted a very long time and are quite nice and will come back each year.

raisedbed.jpg (10358 bytes)Fondly known as "the grave"...it is the new raised bed for the dahlias. This used to be covered in asphalt which we had ripped up and disposed of.

arbor.jpg (10227 bytes)The new back arbor replaced a rusting chain link fence and gate. Silver lace vine is in the planters which is supposed to be covered in white flowers in August. backyardwalk.jpg (9742 bytes)The new pea gravel walkway in the backyard looking up towards the new arbor.

iris2.jpg (47202 bytes)The absolutely stunning iris (newly planted this spring)!

backwalk2.jpg (69003 bytes)Looking up from the rear of the garden. The autumn clematis is completely smothering the wall of the garage.

sidewalkway.jpg (70530 bytes)The new raised beds for the tomatoes looking up towards the side walkway. raisedbeds.jpg (64136 bytes)View from the corner behind the garage looking towards the sunny side where the vegetables are grown.
