Welcome to Robert and Michael's Gardening Page - Fellsway East, Malden, Massachusetts 1998 Edition |
Well, what a very interesting spring/early summer this has been! March 28th, 1998, it hits 89 degrees and the fever strikes. Dig, dig, dig, enrich, enrich, enrich, plant, plant plant. May arrives with two weeks of rain which leads into June with 2 more weeks of record setting rain (15" inches in fact) and now in July we've had 2 official heatwaves. But, luckily we've only lost 6 marigolds and 6 New Guinea Impatiens (to some kind of fungus) and one Clematis (we think to rot). We have been hand picking aphids off the roses as well as some Chinese and Japanese Beetles and Red Lily Leaf Beetle, which has invaded New England. They love to chomp on your Asiatic hybrid lilies (but not daylilies) as well as Lily-of-the-Valley. But overall, we have been very lucky and successful.
Just remember, there was nothing here when we started!

that we have dry and hot weather. |
