Michael and Robert are eagerly awaiting Spring to arrive to our garden, as they are crawling up the walls. This is the first time in their 5 years of gardening at their home, that they have had continuous snow cover on the ground since November (a "real" winter for New England).

They both are very curious about how this is going to effect the pests (black vine weevils, red lily leaf beetle, aphids, slugs) that have plaqued their organic gardening techniques. Stay tuned in the coming months for updates, plus, of course, loads of pictures and, hopefully, more writing.

•     They have started their pepper plants (from seed, Seeds of Change)
•     Potted up the skaukgum begonia. (this is the 3rd year for this tuber and it is huge! and a baby offshoot, the actual plant overwhelmed the 2' deep pot last year, definitely a thumbs up if you can overwinter it)
•     Geraniums have been moved from the basement to the attic (south facing window) to start growing back. Tip: they love very rich amended soil and lots of water when flowering, but do not like extended periods of high heat and humidity.
•     Flowering Maple, is doing just that...what a great plant. Bought last year and planted in 2 clay pots, brought in for the winter to the "Plant Room" and still doing nicely.
•     Plans for this weekend are to pot up the caladiums and begonias and get them started and try to find the calla lilies.
