Welcome to Robert and
Michael's Gardening Page - Fellsway East, |
Yet another different winter season - very little consistent snow cover and January averages +7.2 degrees above average for the month. Hostas coming up, clematis leafing out on 01/15/06. There were no days we went below 0 degrees and in fact there were only 3 days we dropped below 10 degrees.
"Blizzard" of 2006" on Feb.12 about 14" of snow all gone by Feb. 17. This was the month of 'yo-yo' temperature swings from the 50s (way above average) in the beginning of the month to lows in the 10's (way below average) towards the end of the month. However, the overall temperature for February averaged just slightly below normal.
Below is a shot of our Colocasia escuelenta 'fontananesii' purchased last year from Plant Delights which we have overwintered in a south facing window in our attic. On 02/26 when Robert went up to water it, he was very pleasantly surprised to find it had sent out a bloom stalk! Very exciting!!
March 10 they are predicting we might even hit 60 degrees! (First time since November 11, 2005) Is winter finally over? We are certainly itching to get out and start the spring cleanup.
And, too boot, the amaryllis bloomed today!
Oooh! And the first spring bulbs!!
