COMMUNITY SERVICE / FUNDRAISERS

The COW Project has incorporated long-standing traditions of community service and fundraising projects, which have been carried on for decades within the Washington Township school system by students, faculty and community members who are passionate about supporting local families in need, as they unite in the spirit of giving.
Over the years, we have raised hundreds of thousands of dollars, with proceeds benefitting our military men and women and their families, children with serious illnesses and their families, families going through financial hardships, and other local families in need in South Jersey.

Fundraisers and Community Service Projects include:

Annual Super Bowl Sunday Hoagie Fundraiser – Over 250 middle & high school students, along with some faculty and staff members, meet at the school cafeteria at 5am on Super Bowl Sunday and make thousands of Hoagies in the longest assembly line ever! While most kids would never consider waking up this early on a weekend, these generous students love being ‘helping hands’ as they make it possible to raise thousands of dollars in donations for local children with serious illnesses. Washington Township is Changing Our World, ONE HOAGIE AT A TIME! *This event is now being organized in partnership with the new Washington Township Future Act Community Service Program.

Joe Indriso Memorial Alzheimers Walk and 5K Run - Our first annual event was held in October 2009 at Washington Lake Park, with proceeds benefitting the Alzheimers Association and the Joe Indriso Memorial Scholarship Fund, in honor of beloved Principal Indriso who lost his life to Alzheimers. Thomas Jefferson Elementary School (Wash. Twp., NJ) alumni are eligible to apply for this college scholarship, by contacting the COW Project at thecowproject@gmail.com. The next annual Walk/5K Run is Nov 12, 2011.

Halloween Haunted Trail - This scary event takes place in Washington Lake Park, where revelers walk down a trail in the woods after nightfall, filled with gory skits and ghoulish characters, all in good fun. Proceeds from 2010 benefitted a local family in need. The 2011 event will benefit our local military heroes who are hospitalized and recovering from serious injuries.

Holiday Food Drives – Food Drives are held before Thanksgiving and the December holidays within the community, at JFK Hospital, ShopRite and the Board of Education. Donations are then delivered to local families in need via food banks, shelters, etc. Please buy an item & drop into our donation baskets when you see them!

Holiday Gift Giving – Names of children in the town are collected by all of the elementary and middle schools, and community members donate new gifts for each name pulled off their school’s tree; 100 students meet together just before Christmas to wrap hundreds of gifts, which are then delivered to local families. Often these are the only gifts some children receive during the holiday.

TD Bank Affinity Program – a way for community members to support the work and mission of the COW Project by simply signing up for this program, if you already have an account (Checking, Savings, Money Market, CD or IRA) with TD Bank.  The bank will make an annual contribution to COW based on the total average balance in all members’ accounts. Help raise funding for our organization without spending a dime! Call TD Bank at 856.582.5655 & tell them you want to join your account(s) to the COW Project Affinity Program. All donors/account info remain confidential.Every sign-up helps us reach a higher goal, no matter how big or small! THANK YOU!
