Anastasia Smith was born at 13:09 on June 7th, 2004. She weighed 6 lb, 10 oz at birth, and was 20 inches long. Her mother, Alexandra Freedman Smith, was in labor for 14 hours, four of which were spent at home excitedly logging the frequency and duration every single contraction. Her father, Robert Randolph Smith, spent the first of those four hours blissfully asleep and unaware, and the last trying hard to keep a lid on his increasing angst. At 3:00 a call was made to the OB/GYN doc on duty at Presbyterian Hospital. 30 minutes later, Alexandra and Robert were checked into the luxury accommodations at the birthing center there (honestly, there was a Jacuzzi in the bathroom and cable TV!). Five hours of intense pain and miles of fetal monitor tape later, a gigantic epidural was administered which made the rest of the process infinitely more bearable for both parties ("Ooh, that was a big one! I can tell by the spike on this graph!"). Finally, a little before 13:00, Alexandra was instructed to push by her OB/GYN doc, and 20 minutes later, Anastasia was born. Mercifully, she had a perfect body and head and was not grotesquely misshapen like other babies often are.
