Princess Mononoke Film Comic100 Cats and a Witch
１００ぴきねことまほうつかい
I borrowed this children's book from my Japanese teacher, and I have translated it here.

むかし、ある ところに おおきな おしろが あります。
おしろには １００ぴきの ねこが すんでいました。
Once upon a time, in a certain place, there was a great palace. In this palace lived 100 cats.
１００ぴきの ねこたちは、なかよしの ともだちが
いました。むらの おとこのこの コネルと いもとの
アンチェです。コネルと アンチェと ねこたちは、
まいにち のはらで たのしく あそんでいました。
The 100 cats had a couple of very close friends. They were the village boy Connel and his younger sister Anche. Connel, Anche, and the cats played happily every day in the fields.
あるひ、ねこたちが おはらへ いくと、ようふくを きた
がまがえるが ないていました。
One day, when the cats came out to the fields, there was a toad wearing clothes, crying.
「へんな かえるだなあ。」
"What a funny frog."
しろねこの キャットが つまみあげると、がまがえるが
いいました。
When the white cat named Kyatto picked it up, the toad spoke.
「ぼくだよ、ともだちの コネルだよ。
まほうつかいが やってきて、いもうとの アンチェを
さらっていったんだ。ぼくが たすけようとしたら、まほうの
つえで たたかれて、こんな かっこうに されちゃったんだ。」
"It's me, your friend Connel! A witch came here and kidnapped my sister Anche. When I tried to help Anche, the witch struck me with her stick and changed me into this!"
コネルの はなしを きいて、ねこたちは おこりました。
「アンチェを たすけに いこう。」
「みんなで まほうつかいを やっつけるんだ。」
When they heard Connel's story, the cats became angry. "Let's go rescue Anche!" "All of us together will beat that witch!"
かえるに された コネルも、キャットの せなかに
とびのって いいました。
Connel, in his frog form, jumped up on Kyatto's back and spoke.
「ぼくも いっしょに いくよ。まほうつかいを やっつけて
もとの ぼくに もどしてもらわなくっちゃ。」
"I'm going with you, too! We'll beat the witch and then I have to get my original shape back!"
「よし、しゅっぱつだ。」
"Ok, let's go!"
ねこたちは すすみました。もりを ぬけ、けわしい やまを
こえていました。
The cats walked along. They went out of the forest and over a steep mountain.
やがで、いわやまの うえに ふるぼけた おしろが
みえました。
Soon, they could see an ancient castle on top of a rugged mountain.
「あれが まほつだかいの おしろだよ。」
"There's the witch's castle."
「アンチェは あの とうの てっぴんに いるんだ。」
"Anche's up in that tower."
ねこたちは、いわやまを のぼっていきました。
The cats climbed the rugged mountain.
ねこたちが そっと へやの なかを のぞくと、
おそろしい まほうつかいの まえで アンチェが
しくしく ないていました。
When the cats quietly peeked in the window, they saw Anche weeping before the frightful witch.
まほうつかいは、きみの わるい こえで アンチェに
いいました。
The witch spoke to Anche in a terrible voice.
「どうしても わしと あそびたくないと いうのかね。
それなら、おまえも この つえで がまがえるに
してしまうよ。」
"How dare you say you don't want to play with me? Keep that up, and I'll turn you into a toad too."
「それっ、アンチェを たすけるんだ。」
"OK, let's rescue Anche!"
１００ぴきの ねこたちは いっせいに とびかかりました。
The 100 cats jumped in all at once.
「あわわわ……たすけて。」
"Waah...Help!"
はほうつかいは おおあわて。いそいで まほうの つえを
ふりあげました。そして へやの すみに いる むずみを
たたきました。
The witch acted fast. Suddenly she raised her magic stick. She struck the mouse that lived in the corner of the room.
「ねずみよ、はやく ライオンに なれえっ！」
"Mouse, instantly become a lion!"
「ウォーっッ！」
"ROAR!"
ねずみは おそろしい ライオンに なりました。
The mouse had become a fearsome lion.
「いひひひひ……そんな ところに かくれても
むだじゃよ。さあ、ライオン、ねこたちを たべておしまい。」
"Heeheehee...It's no good hiding over there. Ok, lion, eat up the cats!"
すると、１００ぴきの ねこが ひとつに あつまりました。
At this, the 100 cats gathered themselves into one.
「ガオーッ！」
"GROWL!"
とつぜん おおきな とらが あらわれたので、ライオンは
びっくりぎょうてん。
The lion was shocked and horrified, because it looked like a huge tiger had suddenly appeared.
まほうつかいを はねとばして にげだしました。
The lion leaped away, knocking over the witch.
「それっ、まほうの つえを とりあげろ。」
"Now, get her stick!"
つえを とられてしまうと、まほうつかいは きゅうに
ちからなく すわりこんでしまいました。
With her stick taken away, the witch suddenly collapsed powerlessly to the ground.
「あー、ゆろしてくれ……。わしは なにも みんなを
いじめたくて わるい ことを したわけじゃ
ないのじゃよ…。」
"Waah, forgive me...I didn't mean to do such bad things and bully you so..."
「わしは ３７０ねんも いきてきたが、ずっと
ひとりぼっちだったんじゃよ。
わしは ともだちが ほしかったんじゃ。
それで アンチェを つれてきたんじゃよ。」
"I've lived for 370 years, and all that time I've been all alone. I just wanted a friend. That's why I took Anche."
まほうつかいが あんまり さびしそうなので
ねこたちは、ちょっぴり きのどくに
おもいました。
The witch seemed so lonely that the cats felt a little bit sorry for her.
「そんなに なくなよ。」
キャットが いったときです。
"Don't cry like that," Kyatto said.
まほうつかいが さっと つえを つかみました。
「いひひひ。この つえさえ とりかえせば
こちらの ものじゃ。」
Suddenly the witch grabbed the stick.
"HeeHeeHee. Now that I have my stick back the advantage is mine."
いつのまにか まほうつかいは おそろしい かおに
もどっていました。
Before anyone realized it, the witch had become frightening again.
「この まほうの つえで たたけば、どんな
ものにでも かえられるんじゃ。――さあ、おまえたちを
みにくい あおとかげにでも かえてやろうか。」
"With this magic stick I can transform anything at all. ---So, shall I turn you all into ugly green lizards?"
「そうじゃ、いい ことを おもいついたぞ。」
まほうつかいは にやりと わらいました。
"I have a better idea," the witch grinned.
「おまえたちを わしの ともだちに してやろう。
この まほうの つえで たたいて 『ともだちになれ』と
いえば、あまえたちは いやでも わしの ともだちに
なってまうんじゃ。」
"I think I'll turn you all into my friends. When I strike with this stick and say 'Become my friends!' all of you will turn into my friends, like it or not."
ねこたちは びっくりしました。
The cats were shocked.
「えーっ、ぼくたち どうなるの？」
"Oooh, what will we turn into?"
「みんな まほうつかいみたいに なっちゃうの？」
"Will we all become like witches?"
まほうつかいは つえを うちおろしました。
The witch struck down with the stick.
「ともだちに なれーっ！」
"Become my friends!"
とたんに しろい けむりが ぼわわわ……。
Suddenly white smoke filled the air...
――けむりが きえろと、みんなの まえに
１ぴきの くろねこが あらわれました。
When the smoke cleared, a black cat had appeared in front of them.
「あやや、どうして わしが ねこに なるじゃ。
まほうを まちがえてしまったかな。」
"Oh no, why did it turn me into a cat? Has my magic gone wrong somehow?"
すろと キャットが いいました。
At this point, Kyatto spoke.
「いいじゃない。これで ぼくたち みんな ともだちだよ。」
"Isn't this a good thing? As you are now, we all will be your friends."
まほうつかいが ねこに なってしまうと、まほうが とけて、
コネルも もとの すがたに もどりました。
When the witch changed into a cat, the spell on Connel was broken and he returned to his original form.
みんなは おおよろこびで むらへと かえっていきました。
All of them returned to the village, very happy.
「はおうの とおり いっぺんに １００ぴきも
ともだちが できたんだ。」
"Like magic I suddenly have 100 friends!"
まほうつかいだった くろねこも おおよろこび。
The black cat that was once a witch was also very happy.
おしろの ねこは １０１ぴきに たりました。
Now 101 cats lived in the palace.
