Nadia Vol 2,4:
Nadia's Rescue Mission

"The Secret of Blue Water" is the adventures of Nadia, a mysterious circus girl, and Jean, an inventive boy, with jewel thieves, Captain Nemo of the Nautilus, a world-domination-seeking secret society, and more. I have a set of color manga that was made from the anime series which I will be translating here bit-by-bit. This is part 4 of volume 2, "Nadia's Rescue Mission".

Part 4
Nadia's Rescue Mission

On the Nautilus...

Electra: Captain Nemo, sir. We've located the firing site.

Nemo: Good! Head that way at once!

Electra: All port and starboard stations prepare for full-speed submersion!

Crewman: Understood! All tanks flooded! Beginning submersion!

Back un the island, the Grandis Gang and Jean recover from the stunning they received when the weapon fired.

Hanson: What was that? Just now.

Jean: It seemed like it put out a blast of light.

Sanson: So, that that light was...

Suddenly, Jean and Sanson seem to come to and realize who they are talking to.

Jean and Sanson: Aaagh!

Sanson grabs Jean by the collar.

Sanson: You little punk! What happened to the girl?

Grandis touches his sleeve.

Grandis: So, my boy, where is the Blue Water?

Jean: Nadia... was captured by those rats.

The Grandis Gang: Whaat!!

Sanson: So, what do we do now, boss?

Grandis holds out her hand to Jean.

Grandis: Well, Jean! You want us to lend you a hand?

Jean: But....

Grandis: We're allies just until we get off this island. If that's all right with you...

The group sneaks out onto a bridge overlooking the factories.

Grandis: Huh? What's that over there?

Jean: Probably a portal for submarines.

Hanson: We could probably escape through that hole using the Grantan...

Grandis: (sweetly) Hanson, darling... do go and fetch it for us, please.

Hanson: We-ell, I would, but with such strict security...

Grandis: What did you say!? Just do it, any way you can! Are you men or what!?

From a loudspeaker at Gargoyle's castle a voice calls out.

Gargolye: Jean coq Laltigue, can you hear me? Give yourself up peacefully! It's the only way you can help Nadia and your other friends. Time is running out. Hurry up!

Sanson: What a dirty trick.

Grandis, Sanson, and Jean try to sneak down a hall.

Grandis: OK!

They run straight into one of the giant robot-suited men.

Grandis: Wah!

The robot reaches for Jean, but Sanson grabs the mechanical arms!

Jean: Waagh! Sanson!

Sanson: Heh heh heh...

He seems to enjoy the test of his strength. Inside, the soldier operating the robot is shocked.

Soldier: Is he crazy!?

With a burst of strength Sanson pushes back on the arms, overloading the robot!

Sanson: Hiyaaaah!

Soldier: Th-that's...

He jumps out of the robot before it explodes, and Grandis knocks him out from behind.

Grandis: Oopsie. That's one disguise captured.

Jean: W-wow.

Grandis: Well, let go get another disguise!

Sanson: Sure thing!

Jean: Sanson... thanks!

Sanson: (embarassed) ...yeah. Pain-in-the-neck kid...

After getting another disguise for Sanson, the three sneak up to a gate into Gargoyle's headquarters where a water pump is working.

Jean: If we can dam up the water there, we'll stop the coolant device.

Sanson: Yeah!

Jean: And then in a little while the boiler will overheat...

Sanson: Kablam!

They dump the broken robot into the drain basin. Then Gargoyle's threatening broadcast comes on again.

Gargoyle: Jean coq Latigue, we will wait one hour! If you don't show yourself by that time, the lion cub will be called away to a better place...

Grandis: Ready? The battle plan begins!

Jean: Yeah.

In Gargoyle's headquarters, a soldier comes to report to him.

Gargoyle: Enter!

Soldier: The boy has shown up.

Gargoyle: Very well. Take him to the hall.

In the great hall, Jean is brought before Gargoyle flanked by two armed guards.

Gargoyle: You're a brave boy. An act of love?... Welcome, Jean coq Laltigue.

Jean: Where's Nadia!?

Gargoyle snaps his fingers, and Nadia, Marie, and King are lowered from the ceiling. Nadia is ties to a Y-shaped cross, and the other two hang from ropes around their waists.

Nadia: Jean!

Gargoyle: Now, Jean, will you please tell me the whereabouts of the Blue Water...? I know you're keeping it for Nadia.

Nadia: Jean, don't!

Jean: I won't tell.

Gargoyle seems taken aback by this refusal.

Jean: I won't because as soon as I spill it you'll have us killed! Not unless you clear out the soldiers and free Nadia and the others!

Nadia: Jean......

Gargoyle: I see...

He snaps his fingers again and the soldiers file out, all but the two on either side of Jean, who whisper to him:

Soldier 1: You had it on you?

Soldier 2: Sheesh! Conned by a kid.

Soldier 1 (Grandis): Oh well. We've burned our bridges now. Anyway, they're slimeballs who deserve it.

The two soldiers flip up their masks, revealing themselves as Grandis and Sanson. They aim their rifles up at Gargoyle.

Grandis: Now free Nadia, or else you'll get hurt!

Gargoyle: Well now, what's all this about?

Sanson: Heh, heh. I'm an expert shot!

Gargoyle: Why not give it a try?

Sanson shoots, but the bullets bounce harmlessly off a transparent sheild.

Gargoyle: I'm surrounded by hardened Tektite. You can't scratch it with those guns.

The real soldiers march back in. Grandis and Sanson drop their weapons.

Gargoyle: That's a wise move. As I was asking before, where's the Blue Water?

Suddenly the lights go out!

Gargoyle: What happened!?

Soldier: Someone has destroyed the power plant.

Gargoyle: What!?

The Grantan crashes in through the side of the room.

Grandis and Sanson: Hanson!

Hanson: Sorry for the delay...

Grandis and Sanson: Nice timing!

Gargoyle: Start backup power!

When the lights come back on, he sees that the chains that suspended Nadia and the others hang down empty.

Gargoyle: Blast you...(shaking his fist)

(What happened in the dark a moment before was that the Grantan's mechanical arms tore Nadia and the others free from the ceiling.)

Nadia: Yaagh!

Grandis: Goodbye! Adios! Sayonaraa!

The Grantan charges out the building and down the track. Sanson takes the wheel and reverts to his wild-driver persona.

Sanson: Yah hah hah hah hah!

Jean: ......Does he always get like this?

Grandis: Yep.

As they continue down the track a large robot car rushes up to stop them!

Jean: Huh!

Grandis: What's that!?

Sanson:Oh!? Ya wanna mess with us, hee-heee! C'mon! C'mon! C'mon! Take this! C'mon!

He extends the Grantan's cannon and crashes it into the robot.

Sanson: I'll get clean away!

The robot grabs a bulldozer-like plate to shield itself.

Sanson: You're not blockin' me!

Grandis and the others: Waagh!

Sanson: Don't sweat it!

At the last minute he extends the Grantan's legs and steps over the barrier.

Sanson: Wahooo! Hah ha ha ha ha!

The rest of the people in the tank are shaken up by his driving.

Grandis: Jump into the lake!

Sanson: Got it! Aquatic mode.

The Grantan switches to boat mode as it lands in the water.

Grandis: We can escape like this.

A gate begins to close.

Sanson: You're not blockin' me!

Batteries of artillery fire cause spouts of water around the Grantan.

Gargoyle: (on loudspeaker) Resistance is useless. Give up. Cease firing!

Sanson: And we've come so far....

The Garfish sub surfaces near the Grantan, but then suddenly the Nautilus surfaces right next to them!

Jean: The Nautilus!?

Gargoyle: What? The Nautilus. Shall Nemo's interference be forgiven? Stupid fools! Prepare to fire the Tower of Babel, targetting the Nautilus!

Soldier: Please wait, Lord Gargoyle. It could be dangerous to use the artificial orichalcum repeatedly...

Gargolye: I don't care!

Meanwhile, Gargoyle's sub fires on the Nautilus, but the shots bounce off. The Nautilus fires up at the tower.

Crewman: Disable the Garfish! Fire two!

The shots at the tower are repelled by a force field.

Nemo: A barrier!?

Scientist: Connecting all circuits! Firing in 30 seconds...

Nemo: Is he using that crazy Tower of Babel!? Rapid dive! Hurry!

The Nautilus starts to submerge, as the Tower of Babel overloads and explodes! The resulting explosion and fire takes out the base and most of the island. Gargoyle escapes in a balloon.

Gargoyle: The base, that cost so much money and time to build, is no more.... No matter. It's better that Nemo does not learn my secrets. In the long run, it's a small loss...

Gargoyle: Besides that... Whose fault was it that brought on the destruction of the base by a handful of intruders?

Officer: Umm, uhh...

Gargolye: You will die to atone for your offense to me.

He presses a button, and the officer falls through a trapdoor in the bottom of the balloon!

Officer: Wah! Waaaaaagh!

From the top of the Grantan Nadia, Marie, Jean, and King watch the island burn...

Jean: Oh yeah! I'll return what I've been keeping for you.

He hands Nadia the Blue Water.

Nadia: Thank you Jean. You came to save me and...

Jean: Heh heh...

Nadia: This makes the second time...

Jean: That's ok! I'm just glad everyone is all right...

They see the Nautilus in the distance.

Jean: ... The Nautilus. And Neo Atlantis, and Gargoyle... What kind of people are they, really?
