Nadia Vol 3,1: Nemo's Secret
"The Secret of Blue Water" is the adventures of Nadia, a mysterious
circus girl, and Jean, an inventive boy, with jewel thieves, Captain
Nemo of the Nautilus, a world-domination-seeking secret society, and
more. I have a set of color manga that was made from the anime series
which I will be translating here bit-by-bit. This is part 1 of volume
3, "Nemo's Secret".

version with Japanese.
Chapter 1 Nemo's Secret
Nadia, Jean and Marie watch the fire on the island from the top of
the Grantan.
Nadia: I wonder about the people that were imprisoned... will they
be all right?
Jean: It looked like they all got away to the shore... You're
relieved that Gargoyle and his people also got completely away, aren't
you?
Nadia: Yes... that's right. It was a good thing.
Sanson pops up out of the porthole and yells.
Sanson: Hey! Jean!
Jean: What's up?
Sanson: What are you doing? Hurry up and help! We got hit here and
there and on top of that we're leaking.
Hanson: If this keeps up my Grantan will be suuunk!
Grandis: And it's all because we saved you...
Jean: I've got it! We can get help from the Nautilus!
The Grandis Gang: The Nautilus?
Jean: It's a submarine that saved us once before!
Nemo watches the island from the Nautilus.
Electra: Captain Nemo. There is a radio message coming from the tank we
saw a while ago.
Nemo: Read it to me.
Electra: Yes sir. "SOS SOS GRANDIS." --- That's the end! What shall we do?
Nemo: Rescue them... They also attacked Neo Atlantis, so they are allies...
In the Grantan, Jean is operating the radio while the gang looks on.
Jean: They say they'll rescue us.
Nadia: ... Riding again. In that boat...
The Nautilus pulls up to them as they stand on the nearly-sunk Grantan.
Marie: A biig boat!
Hanson: Already I find the structure of this mammoth submarine
unbelievable..
Jean: ...To ride it once again!
There are tears of joy in his eyes, but Nadia looks unhappy.
Jean: What's wrong? You have a long face...
Nadia: --- I just don't like this ship.
Jean: Oh?
The Grantan is taken into one of the Nautilus' airlocks. In the control
room, Nemo, Electra, and an engineer discuss the situation.
Electra: Reception of the survivors has been completed.
Engineer: Captain Nemo, the damage report is finished...
We took minor external damage be the atomic hydrogen conduction
tubes and the magnetic field adjustment systems are broken.
Electra: How long will repairs take?
Engineer: 48 hours.
Electra: My... it can't be done faster than that?
Nemo: If the master engineer says he will need 48 hours, then
that's what he needs. Make complete repairs.
Engineer: Aye, aye sir.... All of our energy has been switched to
battery power...
Nemo: ...In that case, our actions will be extremely restricted.
Electra: By the way, Captain, I bitterly regret that Gargoyle got
away.
Nemo: I won't give up... There's no way I'm giving up!
Electra: Of course not. The whole crew feels the same way. By the
way, what shall we do about the warriors on that strange tank?
Nemo: Look after the wounded and sick courteously! But --
Electra: (imitating Nemo) "I won't permit unknown outsiders poking
around in the ship. When the repairs are complete we'll give them
plenty of food and water and let them go -- good riddance." That's what
you always say, isn't it Captain?
Nemo:...Uh-huh.
Meanwhile, the Grandis gang and the children have been waiting in a
loading bay for someone to come for them. Grandis sneezes.
Sanson: It's good they rescued us but I've got a bad feeling about
this ship...
Nadia sulks silently while Marie dozes.
Sanson: ...But anyway, those guys seem to be happy about something...
Jean and Hanson are happily examining the floor.
Jean: See?! It isn't riveted down!
Hanson: That's right.
Jean: It's amazing! This ship is made from advanced technology!
Hanson: Yeah! It's really something else to be able to ride in a
ship like this...
Jean and Hanson: We're so lucky!
Sanson sighs at this.
Hanson: Is this the door?... (kneeling in front of it)
Jean: Yeah! Last time there was also one that opened automatically.
As they kneel in front of the door it suddenly opens. Electra, in her
mask, looks down at them.
Jean: Electra...
Electra: My! It was you!? Welcome to our ship. Make yourselves
at home!
Nadia, Marie, and King look at her suspiciously. Sanson is very
interested.
Sanson: No, the pleasure is all mine. I'm truly grateful for
the rescue you graciously gave to us, Mademoiselle!
Electra is speechless.
Sanson: Permit us to introduce ourselves. This is Hanson, my
assistant. This young woman is Senorita Grandis...our
employer. And I am known as Sanson. I am delighted to make your
aquaintance...
Grandis: Sanson, don't give out our names to a woman whose face
you can't even see!
Electra removes her mask.
Electra: Indeed... I have been discourteous. I am Electra.
I serve as the second-in-command on this ship.
Jean, Hanson, and Sanson are all overcome by the sight of her face.
Nadia looks blank.
Electra: It's been a while, hasn't it, Jean! I didn't think
I'd ever see you again.
Jean: No, me neither.
Electra: Who is that child?
Jean: She's Marie. We made friends with her on the island.
Electra: And her parents?
Jean: The Neo-Atlantis people got them...
Electra: I see.
Suddenly Grandis sneezes loudly.
Electra: Does she have a cold?
Grandis: Aagh! It's from being shut up in a place like this!
Electra: That's too bad... I'll call the doctor right away.
Later, Nadia and Jean are talking in their cabin.
Jean: -- Gargoyle said that he knew all about you...
Nadia: Yes! Also, he called that weapon the "Tower of Babel."
Jean: The "Tower of Babel"? Isn't that something out of the
Old Testament?
Nadia: Then... he kept talking about orichalcum.
Jean: Orichalcum? Could that be the gigantic glass
plate on the tower? It looked like the Blue Water...
Nadia: You really think so?
Jean: Yes! There's some connection between the Blue Water and
Neo Atlantis! And also with the Nautilus...
Hanson and Sanson are sitting in their locked cabin after a meal.
Hanson: I wonder if the boss is OK?
Sanson: Why don't we go pay her a visit?
Hanson: Huh? How could we do that?
Sanson: Dummy... this room is sure to be bugged.
Hanson: You think so?
He checks the room and finds a small spy lens.
Hanson: ...here it is, I think! (yells) Excuuuse me! We'd like to go
over to the boss' room for a while!
Electra, who was listening, holds her ears.
Electra: All right. Go right ahead...
They find Grandis asleep in sick bay.
Hanson: Boss!
Doctor: It's all right! She's just sleeping because of the medicine
she took...
Nemo and Electra have a discussion on the bridge...
Nemo: How are the repairs coming?
Electra: Very nicely. They say they'll be done in the morning.
Captain, if you'd like to take a rest...
Nemo: No! I'm fine here.
Electra: (imitating Nemo again) Since the whole crew is working
there's no way I can sleep!
Nemo: Lieutenant! You talk too much.
Electra: Concerning what you've been talking about, we picked up those
children again.
Nemo: Those children that built an airplane...
Electra: Don't you want to meet them this time?
Nemo: No need for that.
Electra: I see...
In their cabin that night, Jean sleeps but Nadia stays awake wondering.
Nadia: ...I wonder where we're going from here...
Next morning, Grandis drinks a cup of something. She is still in
sick bay in a hospital gown.
Grandis: What is this stuff?
Hanson: They said it was milk.
Grandis: It has a strange fishy flavor...
Sanson: They said it was whale milk.
Grandis looks sick.
Grandis: Whale!? What kind of stuff have they been giving me!
Nemo and Electra enter the cabin. Grandis blushes, very impressed
with him.
Nemo: Are you doing well?
Grandis: Who? You....
Nemo: Please pardon my delay in introducing myself. I am Nemo, the
captain of this ship.
Grandis turns red and hastily pins the front of her hospital robe.
Nemo: Oh, you're fine as you are. I'd like to ask you something.
How are you feeling now?
Grandis: Yes sir! I already feel completely better
just because you asked...
Nemo: That's good. We will make repairs on your
vessel if you like.
Grandis: No, we can take care of it ourselves.
Nemo: Very well. And now, I must be leaving.
Grandis: U-um, what was your name again?......
Nemo: Nemo. See you later... (He leaves.)
Grandis: Nemo.... Captain Nemo. (lovingly)
Later, Sanson and Hanson are working on the Grantan.
Sanson: So, what do you think?
Hanson: Yeah... Has it happened again, I wonder?
Sanson: Ah, there's no mistake. It's the same old story.
Hanson: And what you're talking about is --
Sanson and Hanson: Bitten by the love bug! (They sigh.)
Jean, Marie, and Nadia are talking in their cabin. King is looking tired.
Jean: Hey, Nadia. Let's go call on Grandis in the hospital.
Nadia: Why?
Jean: Why... because Sanson and Hanson are actually good people, and
from the time they came to our rescue all three of them have been
cooperating with us...
Nadia: Why do you think they're cooperating with us?
Jean: Huh? Um, I guess it just happened that way.
Nadia: Don't you get it!? They're after the Blue Water.
That's why they helped us!
Jean: But the Blue Water didn't glow even once while I was
with them...
Nadia: Well, then it's broken!
King suddenly sneezes.
Nadia: King, what's wrong?
Jean: Could he have a cold?
Nadia: (to King) Are you all right? Open your mouth...
Terrible! It's swollen. What shall we do?
Marie: Let's have the doctor look at him!
As they are walking towards sick bay, Sanson
and Hanson are talking in the hallway.
Sanson: It's all right! Anyway, we'll reason with the boss.
Hanson: But...
Sanson: Anyway, she'll lose interest as always, right? Or be
rejected?... Anyway, if it's no good then it's better over
quickly.
They meet up with Nadia, Jean and Marie in the hall.
Sanson: What? It's you...
Jean: Yes. It looks like King has a cold. Another thing is we'll make a
sick call on...
Sanson: Thanks for seeing her. But could you wait a little?
We've got something important to say to the boss.
Nadia: Don't be so selfish!
Jean: Look! It isn't glowing. (pointing to the Blue Water)
Nadia: We can't tell about that because Grandis isn't around!
Sanson: Hey... what's the fuss about?
Nadia: I'll have nothing to do with you!
Grandis: Please don't quarrel...
Grandis comes out in a bright red frilly dress, looking as
attractive as possible. Nadia, Jean, and Marie are shocked.
Grandis: We're all friends. Nadia, please forgive me for chasing you.
Nadia is shocked speechless.
Grandis: I've decided to accept the hospitality of this ship for
a while longer. That's all right with you, isn't it?
Sanson and Hanson: Yeah...
Grandis: Well, please pardon me for now.
She goes back into her room and shuts the door.
Hanson: It's for real, huh. That...
Nadia and Jean give a sigh. Just then Electra comes around the corner.
Electra: What? How is it you've gotten together?
Jean: Yeah. It's hard to explain...
Nemo appears in the hall.
Electra: (to Nemo) You're just in time. I'll introduce you.
This is the boy we were talking about.
Nemo: Hmmm?
Jean: Pleased to meet you. Thank you very much for rescuing us, Battleship
Captain Nemo!
Nemo glares at him.
Jean: I-I'm...
Nemo: You're Jean, right?...
Don't address me as Battleship Captain! This isn't a warship!
Jean: Uh...OK. Sorry, Captain Nemo.
Nemo: I must be going... (He starts to walk off).
Electra: And these are Nadia, Marie, and King the lion.
Nemo turns his head and stares at Nadia, and the Blue Water around her neck.
Nemo: They're not allowed to walk around the ship without permission!
Nemo goes above and looks at the sunset. Nadia and Jean are back in the cabin.
King is resting on a bunk with a cloth over his eyes.
Jean: Captain Nemo is just like I thought he'd be. He's very macho...
A real man of the sea! Don't you think so? ...Nadia?
Nadia: ....Ah! Sorry.
Jean: What's wrong?
Marie: Do you have a cold too, Nadia?
Nadia: Uh-uh, I don't. It's nothing, nothing... (She holds Marie).
In his private cabin, Nemo gets out a box containing a large gem that
looks just like the Blue Water. He begins to play the organ.
Sanson: Noisy...
Hanson: Sounds like a pipe organ.
Nadia hears it and wakes up.
Nadia: ... Mother.
She gets up and walks to the door where the sound is coming from. She is about
to open it when someone behind her turns on the lights.
Electra: Don't go in there! ...Nadia. What are you doing here...?
Nadia: Somehow, when I hear that music it's like my mother is calling to me....
Electra: Get a hold of yourself!
Nadia: But...
Electra: Captain Nemo is playing in there.
Nadia: Captain Nemo?
Electra: That's right... This is his room. No one is permitted to enter.
She escorts Nadia back to her cabin as the music continues.
