Nadia Vol 3,4: Valley of the Dinictus
"The Secret of Blue Water" is the adventures of Nadia, a mysterious
circus girl, and Jean, an inventive boy, with jewel thieves, Captain
Nemo of the Nautilus, a world-domination-seeking secret society, and
more. I have a set of color manga that was made from the anime series
which I will be translating here bit-by-bit. This is part 4 of volume
3, concerning a health crisis on the Nautilus just as they have found
their enemy again.

version with Japanese.
Valley of the Dinictus
The Nautilus is back under way again.
Crewman: Unidentified floating object at 2 o'clock.
Engineer: At last we've caught them.
Electra: Yes, perhaps it's the Garfish.
Nemo: All-ship phase 2 battle deployment!
Speaker: Repeat: all-ship phase 2 battle deployment. All noncombat
personnel evacuate to block 3!
Nadia, Jean, and Marie listen to this in their cabin.
Nadia: Once again, they're going out to murder people...
Jean: Don't say such things about these good people.
Nadia: They're just the same. I won't forgive them. That man...
Jean: But...
Nadia: It's murder! Whatever the reason they give...
Jean: That's not so!
Suddenly Marie faints.
Nadia: Marie!
They take Marie to the infirmary.
Nadia: Doctor, how is Marie...?
Sanson: Will Marie be all right!? Well, how is she!?
Doctor: ... She probably has inflammic fever.
Sanson: I don't care what its name is. Will she get well soon?
Doctor: It may be very difficult...
Sanson: Please, just clear up her sickness like you always do!
Doctor: This is a terribly unique illness... With the medical supplies on
this ship...
Sanson: Th-that's...then...Marie will...
He puts his head down on Marie and cries out.
Sanson: Dammit, can't somebody do something!?
Doctor: Except...
Sanson looks up hopefully.
Doctor: Captain Nemo might know something...
Nadia suddenly rushes away.
Jean: Nadia!
She bursts onto the bridge.
Electra: Nadia!
Nadia: Captain Nemo! Marie -- please help Marie! She's caught inflammic fever.
Please help her!
Electra: Nadia...in order to cure inflammic fever we would have to go to "Reef 64"...
But now we are in pursuit of the Garfish.
Nadia is surprised.
Electra: We can't let our objective get away right from under our noses.
Nadia: (Becoming angry) Just because of something like that...
Electra: For us, it's our most important goal!
Nadia: You won't help Marie because of something like that? What's
more important, killing people or saving them? Well, answer me!
The crew remains silent.
Electra: Nadia, calm down and listen...
Nadia suddenly slumps down in a fever, clutching Electra.
Electra: Nadia? Nadia! Nadia!!
Later at the infirmary, Grandis bursts in.
Grandis: They say both Nadia and Marie have collapsed?
Sanson: Boss...
Grandis: How are they, doctor?
Doctor: ...The two of them don't have more than two days...
Grandis and the others: What!?
Doctor: Because we have no medicine, there's nothing we can do...
On the bridge, Nemo and Electra discuss the situation.
Nemo: No! Nadia?
Electra: Yes, sir. It seems she caught what Marie has.
Nemo: I see... and in two days...
Crewman: Approaching the Garfish from behind at a distance of 3000!
Crewman: No obstacles in our course.
Nemo: Reverse course 180 degrees. Head for Reef 64!
The crew is taken aback.
Electra: What! ? You're letting the Garfish get away?
Nemo is silent.
Electra: You're abandoning the pursuit? To revenge what happened 13 years ago...
My younger brother and both my parents... and what about your revenge?...
All right... we'll change course 180 degrees and head to Reef 64.
Nemo: Lieutenant... I'm asking for a little time...
Electra: ...Yes, sir.
A young crewman comes to give the news to Jean and the Grandis Gang.
Jean: ... Then, Nadia and Marie will survive?
Crewman: Yeah, they'll be fine, they'll survive.
Grandis Gang: We did it!
In the engine room, Electra is talking to the Chief Engineer as he works.
She seems to be trying to get him to rebel against the Captain.
Engineer: Certainly, I also think the Captain has changed... To be
honest, the order to change course was a surprise, but... I don't think
his decision was a mistake... for my part, I trust the Captain... he's
the only reason we're all still alive now...
Electra broods silently.
The Nautilus gets to Reef 64.
Crewman: Point SP03, RP40. We're arrived at reef 64.
The Nautilus floats over a large crack in the reef. Nemo, Jean, Sanson,
Hanson, and King are in diving suits, preparing to go down into it in
a bathosphere.
Nemo: OK! Are you all ready?
Jean and the others: Yes, sir!
Nemo: Bathosphere number one separation...
Jean: Wow, I've never seen fishes like that before...
Nemo: Those are the only ones. All the fish living here
are ones that were said to be extinct ages ago.
Nemo: It may be because of the currents and terrain here...
it seems like the things living here are unaffected by the outside
world.
Jean: What's this? (Looking at white flakes in the water).
Nemo: Marine snow. It mainly comes from the bodies of tiny
living things.
Jean: I wish Nadia could have seen this, too.
Nemo: Bottom reached.
The group gets out in their diving suits and walks along the sea floor.
Nemo: There's not much time left. Hurry! We've penetrated to the side cave
where we can gather it.
Jean: Wow, what an amazing forest of seaweed!
They come to a tunnel mouth, and see another cave entrance far below on
the other side.
Nemo: Our destination is that side cave!
Jean: How can we get there?
Nemo: Like this.
He aims a harpoon gun at the cave mouth, and fires a line down to the cave.
Jean: How will we get back?
Nemo: There are pins on your shoulders... if you pull them ascension
balloons will come out and lift you up.... Well, let's get going!
All of them slide down the cable to the deeper cave. There is a glowing fungus
on the walls of the cave.
Jean: Wow - this is the medicine plant?
Nemo: Right.
He opens a special container and fills it with the plant material.
Nemo: That's the end of the gathering operation. Good! We'll do the return launch.
Suddenly King starts at the sight of a gigantic fish-like creature
blocking the exit! It pushes into the narrow cave entrance, trying to
get to them.
Nemo: A dinictus. It's an armored fish from the ancient Devonian epoch!
Nemo: Everyone shut off your lights. That thing is attracted to light,
I think, and that's causing it to attack us. It's phototropic,
which means it has the animal instinct to go after light.
Nemo: These lights are tied to a stone by a wire... Now, let the operation commence!
He drops the lights, weighted by the stone. But a loop in the wire catches King's leg,
pulling him down!
Jean: King! King!
King is being pulled down right near the mouth of the dinictus. Suddenly the lights
activate, too! Jean grabs for King, but it looks like he can't catch him in time.
Sanson: Jean!
Then Nemo's harpoon slices through the wire, freeing King.
Jean: Now' s our chance!
He pulls King back up.
Jean: Wheeew, we saved him...
Later, Jean, Sanson, Hanson, and King visit the infirmary.
Jean and the others: Have Nadia and Marie gotten better already!?
Grandis: Don't be so noisy!
Sanson: You're doing good, aren't you, Marie?
Marie: Uh-huh.
Jean: (to Nadia) You're feeling all right?
Nadia: Yes, I really am. Thank you.
Grandis: Captain Nemo risked his life by going and getting
medicinal plants for you... You'll have to thank him.
Nadia is startled by this.
Nadia: .... You're kidding!
Hanson: It's true!
Nadia: .... Captain Nemo did that...
Meanwhile, Captain Nemo is back with Electra on the bridge.
Electra: Captain Nemo, we have resumed course SB 60.
Nemo: Uuumh!
Electra: Well...
Nemo: Lieutenant... sorry...
Electra: Not at all. I believe in you too, Captain.
Nemo: ... Is that so.
