Tom Grillo is Mike's brother-in-law. Tommy thinks he looks like Bob Villa This turns out to be the coldest trip yet. It is discovered that wood can heat you three ways, gathering it, cutting it, and burning it. Much wood is burned. When we come out, weather reports the temperature as being 15-20 degrees below zero! This did not account for the wind-chill. As the result of the cold, Tom Grillo's equipment was inadequate which resulted in minor frostbite of his feet. "Killer" toboggan run down Sandwich notch road. The cold made the packed snow hard as ice. This resulted in many sore tailbones. There were not too many second rides As this was Dave's first trip since hurting his back, he leaves a day early due to soreness. His sleeping bag is left behind for Tom Grillo. Tom is very appreciative of this. Mike brings first article that uses "GORE-TEX". The article was a pair of pants which he was very careful with in regards to closeness to fire. "Want to play ball, Scarecrow???" Mike was very careful with his new Gore-Tex pants all weekend. Billy(it figures) stands over Mike examining some hurricane matches (these have large heads that can be struck/lit in windy weather). It takes Bill a few tries, but on his hardest strike, the match lights and a big piece of flaming match-head lands in Mikes lap. This causes everyone to be amused except for Mike. |
