This
was to be Steve's first trip back since moving to Bar Harbor, but
at the last minute, he gets "wifed" out.
Just before the hike in, Dave realizes he has left a bag of seasonings
behind at the house. Dave and Mike go back for it.
The sky was overcast on the hike in. We get setup just before it starts
snowing. It snows from Friday morning until Saturday afternoon - two
feet of snow falls! This is AWESOME! The snowshoes prove their worth!
Mark hand-crafted a "grappling hook" (NOT! ) ahead of time
and brought it along. His goal was to throw it across the brook then
cross, hand-over-hand to piss on the other side. This attempt goes
on for hours! He got very good at freeing the hook, as it becomes
stuck between rocks in the brook during retrievals. Meanwhile, Billy
hikes downstream, crosses the brook, and comes back opposite from
Mark and pisses on the other side, which is Mark's goal. Everyone
finds this most amusing!! Mark, finally catches the other side of
the brook, but, due to poor grappling hook material, straightens out
the hook rendering it useless.
Mark brings in a whole roasting chicken - makes up a spit with a handle
to turn it. The chicken roasts for hours next to the fire. Much basting
is done with Bianco. the chicken turns out excellent!!! Tim also has
a smaller chicken that is prepared in a similar fashion.
Mike brings Canadian bacon and Syrian bread. The bread packs in well.
The bacon is cooked over the fire at breakfast and is placed between
pieces of bread. This works out so well, (simple and good tasting)
he claims that next year, that is all he is bringing in for each meal.
The fire spit from 1988 was still standing over fire pit. This is
a testament to the handicraft used in putting it together. Mark was
the major architect and contractor.
This is the year the "ROBO-camper" makes an appearance (inverted
trash bag with head and arm holes) Billy is the "tailor"
and makes a fashion statement. |
