Welcome to RockyOp 2011!

Come join us for a fun-filled weekend of operating sessions on a variety of excellent operating layouts in the Denver, Colorado metro area!

In 2011, RockyOp will be held on the last weekend in April from Friday, April 29 through Sunday, May 1, 2011.

You will "Op 'till you drop" on layouts in 3 different time slots during the 3-day RockyOp.

This web site provides more information about the layouts, schedule, and registration. Presently, layout owners are being contacted and the weekend is being organized.
There are a limited number of slots available, so please register early. We expect to have some new layouts on the tour this year, so the "repeaters" will not see all the same layouts.

If you enjoy model railroad operations, or want a chance to learn more about the fun of operating, then you'll want to register for this weekend!

BONUS! Would you like to mark up for dispatcher at an operating session, but lack experience? Would you like to polish your dispatcher skills? If so, then RockyOp 2011 has something special for you. We will be holding an optional workshop in conjunction with RockyOp 2011. Since many of the 2011 layouts feature CTC signaling, the workshop will focus on CTC - what it is; how it works; how to dispatch with CTC. This workshop will be held on Thursday, April 28. In the morning, Doug Geiger will discuss how he rejuvenated a US&S CTC machine and attached it to his Granite Mountain Railway via CMRI. He will describe how CTC works on the prototype. He will show how to operate his machine. Doug will end by opening up his dispatcher office to attendees, allowing them to twist the knobs and push the buttons on his machine.

In the afternoon, Rodney Black will discuss how to wire up a layout for signaling. He will also demonstrate how to build a modern, computer display based CTC panel using the Computer Automated Traffic System (CATS) open source software. Rodney will walk through how to use a CATS dispatcher panel. We will conclude by retiring to John Parker's BNSF Fall River Division, where attendees can practice what they heard on John's panel.

With the consent of the layout owners, graduates of the workshop will be given preference for the dispatcher position on several 2011 layouts. If this workshop appeals to you, please indicate that you would like to attend on the registration form.
