BIOGRAPHY



A product of a musical family, Roxanne Michaelian began piano studies with Claire James at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music. She continued her education there completing an undergraduate degree and earning a Masters Degree in Performance under Paul Hersh.

Miss Michaelian’s first appearance as soloist with orchestra was at the age of twelve when she performed with the San Francisco Symphony on its youth concert series. She subsequently received first prize in the North American Young Artists Competition in Denver, Colorado, and performed as soloist with the Denver Symphony under Brian Priestman. Other prizes include the Palo Alto Chamber Orchestra Concerto Competition, as well as the Los Angeles Young Musicians Foundation Competition where she was chosen as overall winner. As a result of that award, Miss Michaelian appeared as soloist with the Los Angeles Debut Orchestra under Calvin Simmons at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion. Other orchestras include the San Francisco Symphony, the Oakland Symphony and the San Francisco Chamber Orchestra.

Miss Michaelian is an active and much sought-after collaborator. She was a past winner of the Coleman National Chamber Music Competition, as well as the Carmel Chamber Music Competition. She has toured the United States with cellist Sharon Robinson and Heiichero Ohyama and has performed in concert with Jaime Laredo, Donald Weilerstein, Laurence Lesser, Ida Levin, Michael Grebanier and Nadja Salerno-Sonnenberg. Other chamber music performances include the Seattle Chamber Music Festival, Chamber Music Sundaes, Chamber Music West, Oakmont , Chamber Music Series, the San Jose Chamber Music Society, the Sacramento Chamber Music Society, Composers Inc, the Chancellor’s Concert Sereis and the Midsummer Mozart Festival series. She has been pianist for the Irving Klein International String Competition, played as an extra in the San Francisco Symphony and has performed in joint recitals with members of the San Francisco Symphony and San Francisco Opera Orchestra.

Miss Michaelian has released a CD of flute/piano works with Maria Tamburrino entitled "Enchanted Garden", containing works by Debussy and Ravel, among others. She also performs on a CD of violin/piano works with violinist Dawn Harms called "Hot Canary", featuring works by Rachmaninoff, Kreisler and various other composers.

In addition to performing, Miss Michaelian has given master classes in Idaho, Iowa, and Colorado, been chamber music coach for the California Chamber Music Workshop, and is currently on the faculty at the annual Kirkwood Chamber Music Festival.
