A multi-media presentation
that tells the history of the
Cape Verdean-American experience
|
"With The Wind At Our Backs" is a multi-media presentation that tells the history of the Cape Verdean-American experience. It takes you on a journey which includes the earliest known arrival of Cape Verdeans in the United States and looks at our present day situation. It touches upon the early Cape Verdean-American communities and how we lived, worked, and played. You will see some of the newly formed communities and the jobs we hold. Original kodakchrome slides, a dissolve control, and specially selected music to accompanying narration, will help to make this an experience you will remember. Selections of Cape Verdean Creole, Jazz, Blues, Big Band, Rhythm & Blues, Traditional Cape Verdean music, Ragtime, Rap, Easy Listening and others have been carefully chosen to fit each theme. It is my hope that the audience will not only enjoy this presentation but learn from it as well. The photographs you will see were taken across America, in Lisbon, West Africa and the Islands of Cape Verde. Archival photographs depicting Cape Verdean-American history will be used. This is the first part of a three segment project. |
