Michael Vick is a piece of sh1t.

I never thought I'd say this, but I agree with PETA.

If you're as outraged as I am, let your voice be heard http://getactive.peta.org/campaign/afalcons_vick_2

The weekend report

Well, I figured it was only a matter of time before I started to slack off on my postings.... Anyhow, here's the rundown of my weekend....

Friday, I went to watch the Tigers take the Athletics 7-4. It was a down right beautiful day to be at the ball park. It's amazing to see how baseball is starting to catch on in the Detroit area again. One thing that was really cool is that my wife and I ran across some old neighbors and some people that we used to bowl with...

Saturday... I supposed if I posted to my blog on a regular basis, you'd know that I'm getting ready to have my roof stripped and re-shingled. In addition to that, I'm having the wood trim wrapped in aluminum. Needless to say, it's going to cost an ass load of money.. Anyhow, in order to prep for the work around the house, I had to replace some boards from my deck. I also spent some time replacing my bathroom exhaust fan with a quieter unit that had a higher cfm rating. It all went well except for the part about climbing up in the attic. It's so f'n cramped and hot up there... All I can say is that I'm really happy that project is over and I'm really looking forward to the upcoming home improvements that'll be done by the contractor.

Sunday... It started off as a laid back day. We did a bit of cleaning and went to the store to pick up some ice and bottled water for the contractors... I figure that if I take care of them by providing them refreshments, they may do a better job. Even if they don't, it wont cost much and it'll be a nice gesture. So to end the day off, I figured I'd sharpen some of the knifes while my wife was cooking dinner.... What sounded like a good idea at the time, quickly turned to shit.... Needless to say, an hour later ( I had to finish dinner ) I was in the ER getting stitched up... I really didn't mind getting cut or getting stitched up. However, it's listening to my wife give me shit about the incident that I dread most.... Oh well... I suppose I'd probably be worse than she will be, so I suppose I'll just have to take it...

Until the next post... take care... and be careful with those knives

Roger Keith "Syd" Barrett 1946 - 2006

Shine on you crazy diamond...

Astronomy Domine (Barrett)

Lime and limpid green, a second scene,
A fight between the blue you once knew.
Floating down, the sound resounds
Around the icy waters underground
Jupiter and Saturn Oberon Miranda
And Titania Neptune Titan
Stars can frighten...

Blinding signs flap,
Flicker, flicker, flicker
Blam pow pow
Stairway scare Dan dare who's there...
Lime and limpid green
The sounds around the icy waters under
Lime and limpid green
The sounds around the icy waters
Underground.

Rest in Peace Syd....

Another wonderful weekend....

I spent last week trying to fight off a cold. While that battle is still on-going, I'm doing much better. I'm not the type of person that gets sick often and when I do, I typically won't allow it to interfere with my daily activities. So fortunately, I can provide my weekend update. Hurrah!

Friday thought I was doing better, so I left my Dayquils at home. Toward the end of the work day, I started feeling pretty bad so I asked some coworkers for some drugs. Somebody hooked me up with something that really knocked the heck out of me… I was seriously thinking I was going to OD on that stuff… Fortunately that didn't happen. After a few hours, I was sitting at Nemo's for one of Michigans best bar burgers and a couple of cokes. After eating and having a few cokes, I worked my way up to a couple of Jack and Cokes. Then it was off to Comerica park to watch the Detroit Tigers beat the St. Louis Cardinals 10 – 6. God it's good to have baseball back in Detroit….

Saturday we were off to another graduation party. Nothing out of the ordinary there… Chicken, Baked beans, salads, BBQ, bear, soda, etc… I still enjoy these partys though. Good people, good food, and good drinks all add up to a good time. Congratulations Jim F. Jr.!!!! Now you get to go and join the rest of us working folks…

I think my wife had planned on hanging around the house on Sunday, but I wasn't really up for that. So, after some discussion, we decided to go on the Wyandotte tour offered by Diamond Jack's River Tours. After the tour, we went to the Pier 500 for drinks and food. For desert, we were off to Calders Dairy for some of the best ice cream in town. Yum!

Well, that was a fun weekend…
I hope your weekend was just as enjoyable, if not more...

Why is this blog called Color Blind?

As you may have guessed, I named this blog "Color Blind" because I am color blind. Color blind can be defined as "not subject to racial prejudices" and "unable to distinguish certain colors". I like to think that I am color blind based on both definitions.

As far as not being subject to racial prejudices, I believe that all people are prejudice to a certain degree. Those who say they are not are in denial. However, I'd like to believe that my degree of racial prejudice is very low. Perhaps I'll get into discussing racial prejudices and issues some other time, but this specific posting will be focused on my inability to distinguish certain colors.

Technically, I am classified as Red / Green color blind (deuteranopia). I really don’t see it as a physical disability and I don't have a huge desire to see the world as other people do. I suppose that I'm happy with the way I see the world and I see no need to change it. Here's my bitch….. When people find out you're color blind, they immediately start asking "what color is this?", "how about this?" and I'm thinking "What the fuck? Would you be asking a blind person how many fingers you're holding up? Would you ask a quadriplegic to stand up?". Depending on my mood and how well I know the person affects my reaction to the "what color is this" test. For the most part, I understand that people are naturally curious and want to understand how I see things, so I try to be nice.

Recently I've run across this site that I can direct curious people to so they can see things the way I do…. If curious, check it out http://www.vischeck.com/examples/ .

Church Sign Generator

I'll probably end up going to hell for this... but I suppose that this is better than going to a church and changing around the letters. Besides, who's to say that God doesn't think Color Blind is cool?

Anyhow, check out this site to get your own Divine endorsements... and don't blame me if you end up going to hell for doing it.
At the rate I've been posting my blog entries, I should consider calling this "The Weekend update" instead of "Color Blind".

Anyhow, I started this weekend pretty much the same as the last by heading out to some old dive on Friday. This last Friday we stopped off at KC's Dive for a beer of two (OK, possibly a few more than that). Saturday morning, we were up bright and early to head out to a graduation party which was followed by another party with some good friends, Greg and Fliss. I think we got in sometime around 11:00 -11:30 on Saturday only to have to get up at 05:00 Sunday morning to head out to MIS to check out the 3M Performance 400. Needless to say, my weekend left little time to post blog entries. Partying can be tough work, but hey, somebody's got to do it ....

So what did I do this weekend?

So what did I do this weekend? Glad you asked.....

Friday after work we stopped by a local dive, Ozzies, for some drinks and to wish one of my wife's coworkers, and a good friend, good luck on their new job. We're all very happy for her, but we will miss her. Hopefully we stay in touch.... Congratulations Rachael B!

Then, bright and early Saturday morning, we were off to the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure to participate a volunteers handling water distribution for the walkers and runners. This is the first year volunteering for this cause, and it was truely amazing to see the number of people that participated. I really enjoyed being part of this effort and I'll probably continue to do so for years to come.

That brings us to today, Sunday, and what a beautiful day it is. Overall, there's not much to talk about though. I washed the cars and went grocery shopping with the wife (I handle the impulse buys). Now, we're just chilling out on the deck taking it easy. I plan to finish the night with a Macanudo and "Martini Hell". It doesn't get much better than that... Anyhow, so much for blogging... I need to get back to relaxing...

Busy, Tired, and Happy

I was concerned that I'd have a hard time keeping up with the posts, and needless to say, I've haven't been doing a very good job these last few days. My excuse? I've been very busy and tired.

Work has been rather demanding as of late, and my sleep schedule has been all screwed up. In addition to work, I had to spend some time working as a member of the my community’s home owners association. Today, I ended up dedicating a good 80% of my workday handling T-Shirt distribution for the Komen Detroit Race for the Cure. As a result, I'm totally backed up on email and other work related tasks. Right now, it all seems quite overwhelming. I seems as though there is no end to it all.....

So what is there to be happy about? I just received notification of a job change. It'll mean a lot more work (like I need that right now), but it's something that I've wanted to do for several years. So while it couldn't come at a worse time, I'm truely happy with the change. I suppose I'll just have to knuckle down and "get er done".

Stay tuned to future posts to see if I survive.......

Game One - Stanley Cup Finals

Tonight is game one of the Stanley Cup Finals with the Edmonton Oilers taking on the Carolina Hurricanes. Unfortunately, I can't get behind either team. My Red Wings were taken out of the running by the Oilers, so there's part of me that would like to be able to say "at least they were beaten by the best". Of course there's also part of me that would take great pleasure in seeing the Canes kick the living crap out of the Oilers. As for the Canes, there's the local tie with the Plymouth Whalers and their owner Peter Karmanos Jr., of Compuware.

So who am I rooting for? Neither team. I just hope to see some good hockey and hope that it goes the full seven games. May the best team win.

Daily Dancer

And to think... I avoid hitting the dance floor because I think I look silly out there... I may have to rethink that.

What to write?

Starting a blog makes me think back to a teacher I had in the 7th or 8th grade. I can't remember her name, but I do remember that she had us keep a daily journal and we could write about anything we wanted to. She used to say " in order to get good at writing, you have to write".

Here I am, approximately 25 years later, taking on a similar task without being graded on it (at least by a teacher). I also find myself sitting in front of a blank page wondering "what to write?". Based on my previous experience, I'm sure that this will get much easier as time goes on. My writing will also improve as time goes on. As for being graded on this writing... I suppose the visitors to this site will be grading me to a certain degree by providing their feedback in the form of comments. Hopefully the comments are based more on content rather than grammar.

In closing, I'd like to thank Mrs. Whateveryournamewas for the wonderful lesson and experience with the journal. I hated the assignment at the time, but looking back, it was a wonderful learning experience. I'd also like to welcome my new teachers, the visitors and readers of this blog. I look forward to the comments on my postings...

Ron's Blog / Day 2

Well, I guess all is going pretty well. I need to clean up the look of the blog, but I think I'm ready to go live with this. The next challenge will be coming up with interesting stuff for other people to read. Oh, well... I suppose I'll get better as time goes on.
