Furniture From The New SawDust Shop

The Garage ShopThe Thurlow Street SawDust Shop was the second floor of a 24'X24', two car garage. Here, the New SawDust Shop has to share a 2 1/2 car garage with our van, a golf cart and storage areas. It had to be smaller. I settled on the left side of the garage and put all the major tools on wheels. They can easily be moved leaving room for the van when the shop isn't in use.

Tablesaw CabinetBefore any furniture for the house could be made, some had to be built for the shop. This cabinet for under the table saw is from a plan by Woodsmith Magazine. I made one for my saw on Thurlow Street and loved it. So - it was the first thing I made for the New Shop.

Next - I needed a bench and some storage.  So, I turned to plans from Workbench Magazine. They are perfect for my needs here in the reduced size SawDust Shop.

Wall Sconces and Mirror over the FireplaceWall SconceWhen I had completed these shop furniture projects, it was time to start on some for Linda and our new home. One of the first was this wall sconce. She liked it so well, I made another and a mirror to go over the fireplace.

Doll Crib

Soon after, she needed a crib for a doll she had made. This doll is near life-size and weight.  I'll soon get pictures of the doll on Linda's Sewing Room page.

The next piece from the shop was this washstand for the bedroom. Linda got the pitcher and bowl for Christmas and therefore the washstand was required.Gun Rack

Next, a neighbor prevailed and I built this gun rack for him. The rifle is an old single shot and was used mostly in the west. So, I tried for a western look.

Step StoolCorner Cabinet

Linda had been looking to put something in this corner of the dining room. She found a plan and here it is. The challenge was finding a blue that would exactly match a particular blue in the wallpaper. Thanks to computer magic at the paint store, she was able to do it.

A friend was complaining that it was tough for her to reach the upper shelves in her kitchen. That inspired this step stool. I've made a couple of these in the past and I'm sure I worked from a plan - but this time I just cut it from a 1" X 12" board.

The shop continues to be very busy. The list of things to build is quite lengthy and there are several furniture pieces on it. I'll update this page again soon.

Pre-Retirement, Pre-Florida Furniture

I've made several pieces of furniture over the years. I guess I've never kept any photos of any.

Over 20 years ago, I was building expensive grandfather clocks for friends and family. I'd just ask them to buy materials.

Since then, I've mostly made things for Linda and me and occasionally for the girls.

This photo shows a large hutch I made for the breakfast nook in the kitchen of the house in Georgetown. It stood against the back wall of the fireplace. It's made of knotty pine and I worked from a photo - no plan. It came out pretty good and has been in daily use for many years. The little cabinet sitting on it is for recipes. I made that from a plan, in oak, long ago also.

Meagan's Toybox

This is a terrible picture - but the only one I have. You can see - if you look real close - that it's a toy box. I built this from a plan for our first grand daughter - Meagan.

Ironing Board - ClosedIroning Board - Open

This project, a wall mounted, fold-down ironing board,  became very popular after I made one for Linda. I think all the girls now have one. I'm sure I made the first one from a plan - but that's lost somewhere. The follow-on units were made by duplicating the first.

I had kept a picture of this clock from a Sears Catalog for a long time. At some point, I had the opportunity to make it. It came out pretty nice and is now in Dawn and Dave's home.

Tall Clock

I also made two of these "Beezers." This plan is by Ken  Williams from Bear Lake, PA and they came out great.
