A Great Day in Sacramento

Sacramento Photo Album

On April 13, 2007, my class and I went to Sacramento. We took a bus there. After we got off the bus, we went to the Capitol. We toured the Capitol and saw the rotunda and the Seal of California. Then, we went back to the bus and went to Old Sacramento. Old Sacramento was great. We went to an old station or depot from the 1840's. In there a person told us to each pick an item from a bench. When he was done calling us to get an item, he asked each of us with an item to come up and he will tell us about each item. These were things that were used when people traveled in those days. Then another tour guide came and told us about trains. Next, we got on a train and rode it along the Sacramento River. After a long time on the train, we went back. We split up into groups. I liked buying stuff and it was fun. We also got ice cream. When we got back, we watched a DVD on the bus.

A Happy Day

My day at Sacramento was the best field trip I ever had. Even though the drive there was long, it was an amazing day! I also learned a lot there. First stop was the California State Capitol. Behind the building were plaques. Inside showed displays from each county. Inside also has a room where they can make laws. The second stop was to Old Town. We had a trip back to the olden days. People travelling on the train could only bring the really important stuff with them. I also learned that the first class passenger had nice comfortable seats. And the people who were first class passengers had to pay a lot of money. I think about 100 dollars to ride across country. Then we went on the TRAIN RIDE! YEAH! It was a lot of fun. I took a lot of pictures of it. It was magnificent! When we got off, we went shopping! We got to buy souvenirs. But then, we had to leave! NO! When we got back on the bus, we watched a movie.
Bye Bye Sacramento!

Sacramento

On Friday the 13th it was the day the fourth graders had been all waiting for all year- our field trip to "Sacramento!" That's good news, but the bad news was that Friday the 13th was also known as bad luck day. Fortunately, there there wasn't any bad luck. I was on the field trip and my grandmother was a chaperone. I could tell my teacher, Mrs. Kasternakis, was glad to have her. When we went to Sacramento, we went to the capitol first. There we toured the building and saw the governor's office and the rotunda. Next we went to Old Town where we played some games and had lunch. It was almost our time to tour the railroad station. While we were waiting, we saw a riverboat. After the tour, we got to ride a train. Then it was time to go shopping. We got in groups with chaperones. I didn't buy much because I didn't really see anything I liked. On the way back, it was like racing Mrs. Klein's class on the other bus. We watched a movie on the bus. I liked everything!!

Learning about the Forest

At the field trip to the redwoods we had to be nature detectives in the forest. First we went to the riparian. We got rocks and rubbed them together and made face paint. Then we had to catch bugs. We used a bug box. I caught a beetle. Then we left and went to the core. We had to study plants. I told you what we did, now I will tell you what we learned. I learned that the three different forest communities are edge, riparian and core. Also, I learned bobcats live in the edge and river otters as are in the riparian. The chipmunks and the deer are in the core. These are some things I learned on the field trip.
Bye!

Best Field Trip Ever!

We went to a field trip to Muir Woods today. We learned about the core and the riparian and the edge of the forest. We had to split into two groups. My group went to see the core first. The other group went to see the riparian. We had to find the leaf of different kinds of plants. Later we went to the riparian and we got to do face painting and use a bug box. Then the ranger brought out a banana slug. I really liked the field trip.

Making a Game Board

We're making a game board. It's kind of hard to make. How you make it is: get a piece of a certain kind of thick paper, then fold it in half.[Make sure corners touch.]Then get a ruler and put it on the paper and put a dot next to 1 inch then 2 and a half inch then 3 inch then 4 and a half inch and on till' 10 inches, that is 6 dots. Put six dots on the other side. On the left side with the dots put in order A to F. Then draw a line from A to any dot on the right side and do that with the rest of the letters from A to F. Poke a hole with a pin on both the A's, then measure a piece of wire and cut it with wire cutters and strip the ends. Next wrap the ends around the brads [that have to be in the holes where you poke it with a pin]. To test it you get a board with a battery on it and wires and then put the wires on the top of the matching brads and the bulb will light up. Then do that with the other letters and you have the first part of the game board! --MELISSA

Field Trip to the Tech Museum

It was a long way there. On the way we played Bingo. When we got there it was a big building! First, we got our Tech Tags, something we can scan over a special scanner made for it, then it saves information on the chip. After that we went to design our own roller coaster then we get to ride it! That was really fun! After that, Melissa and I saw a block speller, you have to type in a name or word and a claw picks up the blocks with the letter and then it spells the word! Later we made a windmill work by putting the right flaps on it. Also, I scanned and saved pictures to my tag. The next activity was to try to make the water move the flaps if you put them on the right way. After that we went in an I-MAX Theater and saw a movie about Hurricane Katrina. It was sad. After that we ate lunch and that was mainly what happened! It was a very fun day!

I picked San Jose Museum to report because it was so fun. and we watched a movie. We were on second floor and first, too. On the second floor we saw many machines and activities. My favorite activity was Jet Pack. You have to sit in a chair and you can move if you move the levers. The first lever on the left is to move forward and backward, and the second one on the right is to move left or right. On the first floor was the movie. It was about Hurricane Katrina. The hurricane was so scary when Katrina came to the U.S.
After the movie we went back to San Francisco.

When we went to the San Jose Tech Museum. We had to take a long bus ride. On the bus we played bingo. When we got there, we got into groups. I was with Edgar's dad. We went to a place where there was a platform for earthquakes. There was an earthquake like one in Japan, and it was the best one yet!!!! We all had to hold on to something. After that and some other stuff we went to watch a movie. We had to look up instead of forward!! It was about the Wetlands of Louisiana. We also saw hurricane Katrina. Then we ate lunch. At the end we left.

Class and Museum Project

We did a class project called 'Get Smart with Art.' We looked at art and talked about it and wrote about it. Then we went to the De Young Museum. We looked at the real art that was in the Get Smart with Art picture. Next we did a weaving project, then we ate lunch and played. At last we went back to school.
Jacky

We got to learn about different paintings and different pieces of art like sculptures.

My Favorite Subject

In our fourth grade class we are learning lots of different things, but the most interesting thing to me is science lab. It's my favorite because science is my favorite subject and it has been for a long time. In science lab we are learning about series and parallel circuits. We are using a D-Cell battery, insulated wires, light bulbs, and bases for the light bulbs to screw into. The way to make the bulbs to light is a little bit tricky, but I'll tell you how: First you screw the light bulb in. Then you put an insulated wire in a metal clip on the base holding the light bulb. Attach that to the battery. After that we put a wire in another metal clip on the other side and to the D-Cell battery. If those steps are completed correctly, like magic, the light will go on. That is what we are doing science lab.

Learning About Math

Today we had easy classwork in Math. I was very fast. I even finished it in what seemed like one minute. Sometimes Jenny is faster than me, but this year I beat Jenny every single day. Now when Jenny is finished, too, she will turn around and look at me because we are the only girls who are done. But sometimes I like to check my work once.Woo-hoo Math is my favorite activity!

Student's Science Blog

We learned how to make a circuit. We added a switch to make an open and closed circuit.
In the science lab we did two experiments.
The first one is a light bulb experiment. You need a light bulb holder, a small light bulb, two wires, and a big battery. First you need to put the light bulb on the light bulb holder. Then you need to put one end of a wire through a small hole on the light bulb holder. Next you put the ends of the wires on the + and - sides of the battery. The next experiment is pretty much the same but you have a board to put these objects on. First you have to take apart from what you have from the last experiment. Next put the battery in a slot. Then put the light bulb holder on the board. Next you connect three wires together and that is what we did in the science lab today!
