only my story "All I Really Want..." Summary: Kids say the darndest things. Date began & finished: "Glo-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-o-ria in eggshells is Day-ay-o!" Five-year-old Rosalie Rabb sang at the top of her lungs. Suddenly, she stopped singing and got a puzzled look on her face. Spotting her older brother, she lunged. "Bryan, why is Dayo in the eggshells?" Thirteen-year-old Bryan grimaced. "I don't know. Go ask Mattie and leave me alone." She began singing again as she went up the stairs in search of her older sister. Mattie was reading a letter in her room. "Why is Dayo in the eggshells? In the song? You know, Gloria, in eggshells is Dayo." Mattie laughed, "Silly goose, there are no eggshells. It's pronounced 'een ex-chellsees Dayo.' It means 'glory to God in the highest.' It's what the angels sang to the shepherds when baby Jesus was born." "Oh." Rosalie was satisfied with the answer. If Mattie, who was in her first year of graduate school, said this was the way it was, than it must be so. Sidling up to the bed, "Whatcha reading?" Mattie smiled, "A letter from your Aunt Chloe." Rosalie frowned, "Isn't she your Aunt Chloe, too?" "Nah, she's the same age as me. It'd be funny if she was my aunt, wouldn't it, Rosie-posie-pie?" "Yeah, I guess so. Can I see?" Mattie pulled the paper away from Rosalie and handed her a card instead. "Here you go, Aunt Chloe sent you a card." Smiling, Rosalie grabbed the brightly-colored card. "Yippee, my very own card!" she squealed, running out of the room. Laughing, Mattie went back to her letter. ~~Finis~~ |
