ROSE-MARIE • Artist's Statement

As both a collector of vintage linens and a professional dressmaker, I have combined my interests and my skills into a medium involving both those pursuits. I have a deep appreciation of fabrics: their textures, patterns, colors, and the challenges associated with handling them.

The process of manipulating a flat, yet flowing, textile into a multi-dimensional finished piece requires much planning and creativity. My current business, Rose-Marie, "romances the home," using warm-toned decorator prints with complementary vintage fabrics. I create gifts of comfort and familiarity that allow me, as an artist, to share my choices and combinations with others. The intention is to make my clients' homes -- their private refuges -- a warmer and friendlier place.

Therefore, having spent the past 30 years establishing a specific style in a sewing medium, it is not surprising to find my photographic journey following the same steps. My subject matter varies, but travel, garden and flora are definite favorites.
