Schutzhund Titles
AD
An endurance test. The dogs are trotted for 12 miles under the supervision
of a judge. The judge evaluates the dogs condition while running, and during
scheduled breaks, and after the test. The dogs must complete the test without
injury.
Bh or B'
An obedience and temperament title for dogs over 15 months. On and off-leash
heeling patterns, recall and long down must be demonstrated. Temperament
test done after the obedience section. Both sections of the
Bh must be successfully completed before attempting the Schutzhund 1 title.
Schutzhund A
A title which is the Obedience and tracking portions of the Schutzhund
1 title. This title does not qualify the dog to be breed surveyed, or to
be in a conformation show as an adult working dog. This title is rarely offered
at trials.
Schutzhund 1
The first Schutzhund title consisting of obedience, tracking and protection
phases. The obedience portion is slightly more The Schutzhund 1 title is
a prerequisite to the Breed Survey, and required to show the dog in the working
dog classes.
Schutzhund 2
The next higher Schutzhund title also consisting of Obedience, tracking
and protection phases. The Schutzhund 1 title is a prerequisite to the Schutzhund
2. The Schutzhund 2 title is required to receive the Seiger show rating
of VA (excellent select).
Schutzhund 3
The highest level Schutzhund title, also consisting of Obedience, tracking
and protection phases. The Schutzhund 2 title is a prerequisite to the Schutzhund
3.
FH
An advanced tracking title which is more difficult than the tracking
portion of Schutzhund 3.
Breed Survey
A judges evaluation of the temperament, structure, condition and characteristics of a dog. To obtain a breed survey, the dog must have a show rating of at least G (Good), completed the AD, Bh and at least Schutzhund 1. The Breed survey can result in several outcomes: Kkl 1, or recommended for breeding; Kkl 2, or suitable for breeding; or not suitable for breeding.
After successfully completing the Breed Survey, any progeny of the dog
will be entitled to 'pink papers' if bred to another breed surveyed dog.
White papers vs. Pink papers
White papers are granted from the USA/SV to dogs whose parents are either
not breed surveyed or not titled.
Conformation show ratings
Sieger or Siegerin
The top male and female (respectively) adult working dogs at a countries
national show for a given year.
VA (Excellent Select)
The highest show rating possible. This rating can be awarded only at
national shows.
V (Excellent)
SG (Very Good)
G (Good)
VP (Very Promising)
P (Promising)
LP (Less Promising)
I (Insufficient)
E (Excused)
DNA
In both Germany with the SV and the AKC, a dog can have it's DNA
registered with the registry. This is done by visiting a vet, who would
then take a blood sample in potassium tubes and then the blood is shipped
to the appropriate registry.
AKC papers
An AKC registered litter usually indicates that both of the parents
are AKC registered or that the parents are approved by the AKC because of
registry from another country.
